News
New – Fire safety reminder
The use of charcoal barbeque grills and gas fired grills on decks, balconies,
covered parking areas, patios, or under any building overhang is prohibited by the Joint
Base Myer-Henderson Hall Fire Department. All grills must be used a minimum of 15
feet from any building structure and must not block any walk ways/pathways. The
storage of fuel bottles from the gas fired grills inside any structure or on balconies is
prohibited. Charcoal grills may be stored on porches; decks, balconies and patios
provided the charcoal is completely extinguished and cold. For more information, call

New – EEO Training scheduled for July 30 cancelled
The Equal Employment Opportunity training for the JBM-HH workforce
scheduled for July 30 is cancelled due to the replacement of the air conditioning system
in the Town Hall.
New – MCX Early Closing
The MCX and the Vineyard will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 18, for a
private event.
New – Résumé Writing Class Offered
The Career Resource Management Center, in Bldg. 29 on the Henderson Hall
portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, offers “Résumé Writing 101: Private Sector
2. Résumé Tips & Marketable Formats” Wednesday, August 6, 9 – 11 a.m. This workshop
will assist in drafting a private sector résumé. Learn how to draft targeted résumés and
understand the key components needed to get selected for the right position. The
following topics will be covered: acceptable formats and design, prioritizing and
highlighting key skills, and creating marketable content. Please call 703-614-6828 to

Community Flea Market to be held July 26
Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host a community Flea Market
July 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Activities Center, Bldg. 405 on the Fort
Myer portion of the joint base. Tables should be reserved by July 15 for $10 per space.

associated flag color status and work restrictions, as well as safety tips to prevent heat
stroke and other conditions associated with warmer weather.
Note: The WBGT will be only updated in the event of a "red" or "black" flag
WBGT reading.
Civilian employee needs annual leave assist
A Directorate of Resource Management (budge office) employee, Mary Jones
Williams, is an approved recipient of the civilian personnel annual leave donor
program. Due to medical issues, she has exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Williams must fill out Form OPM 630A, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave
Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at
www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to Williams, you must complete OPM 630B,
"Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave
Transfer Program (Outside Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630b.pdf

SOS offers financial education seminar
"How to Navigate the RelayHealth website" for those who have TRICARE, is the
topic of a Survivor Outreach Services briefing Thursday, July 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at
the Army Community Service classroom on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. A
3. subject matter expert will be on hand to guide you through the site step by step. Light
refreshments will be served.

Zumba® Returns to Smith Gym
Zumba® classes have resumed at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium on the
Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Classes are held over lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m., Monday and Friday. Classes are held evenings, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday. DoD identification card holders are welcome, and the

Civilian Wellness Program
Installation Management Command offers a Civilian Wellness Program for
eligible JBM-HH employees to take part in. Participants who formally enroll in the
program and have their supervisor’s permission are able to take part in this six month

Overture Concert to be held Aug. 23
Come enjoy this end of summer concert spectacular on historic Summerall Field
on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Complete with live cannon fire by The 3d
U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Presidential Salute Battery, this favorite among

Family Readiness
New – New Class: Warrior at Ease
MCCS Henderson Hall offers a new class, “Warrior at Ease: Balancing Warrior
Intensity with Holistic Stress Management.” Open to Department of Defense
identification card holders, the class is held in Bldg. 21 (formerly The Marine Club) on
the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base Monday, August 4, 9 a.m. to noon. Topics
covered are stress management education, to include creating your own stress
management plan; an informative discussion about the relationship between nutrition
and stress; and a gentle, restorative yoga practice. This class may also be offered on site

“Boots to Business”
A “Boots to Business” workshop for aspiring military-to-civilian entrepreneurs is
offered Monday – Tuesday, August 11 – 12, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., in Bldg. 29, Rm. 104, on
5. the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. This workshop
provides information on self-employment, learning to evaluate applicable skills and
personality traits needed for self-employment, identifying types of business ownership,
and researching the business market and competition, understanding the importance of

EFMP Information Session: Yoga Therapy
The MCCS Exceptional Family Member Program will host information sessions
on Yoga Therapy for Children with Special Needs. Sessions are in the Cpl. Terry L.
Smith Gymnasium. Two sessions are planned: on August 21, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., for
parents and service providers of children ages 5 – 11; and on Thursday, September 18,
11 a.m. – 1 p.m., for parents and service providers of children ages 12 - 18. Wear
clothing suited for physical activity. Register 48 hours in advance by calling 703-693-

Defense identification card holders.
GAT 2.0 for Spouses
Army spouses have access to the Global Assessment Tool (GAT 2.0) -- a
confidential, online self-assessment tool that measures the user's level of resilience,
overall health and well-being.
After completing the GAT 2.0, the spouse receives an assessment in each of the
five dimensions of strength: social, emotional, spiritual, family and physical, and an
assessment in the three elements of the Performance Triad -- sleep, activity and
nutrition. The GAT 2.0 arms Army spouses with the tools they need to stay strong

Evening Classes on Communication
The Military Family Life Counselor Program at MCCS Henderson Hall holds
summer evening classes open to military ID card holders. All classes are held in Bldg.
12 on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base in the Marine and Family Programs’
conference room Wednesdays, 6 – 7 p.m.
On July 23, “Power Struggles” will help identify ways to reduce conflict in the
family and ways to gain cooperation.
On July 30, “Healthy Relationships: Single Living” will explore what singles are
looking for in a healthy relationship. Registration is required by calling 703-614-7204.
Married and Loving It!®
This workshop, held July 25, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Bldg. 21 on the Henderson Hall
portion of the joint base, is designed for newly engaged, recently married, or long-term
established couples. The objectives are to help couples identify communication skills
including love languages, give couples guidelines for establishing a sound financial
6. situation, address anger issues and conflict resolution in a marriage relationship,
discuss the role of in-laws, extended family and other factors that influence the
marriage relationship.

What to Do When Life Happens
These workshops offer information on a variety of life skills topics Wednesdays
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through July at the chapel in Bldg. 29 on the Henderson Hall
portion of the joint base.
On July 23, the topic is “Mindfulness and Yoga.”
On July 30, the topic is “Principles of a Healthy Relationships.” Registration is

ACS Play Morning (Outdoor)
This playgroup is for preschool age children to provide time for play, physical
activity and socialization for parents. Play morning is scheduled for July 23, 30, Aug.
from 10 to 11:30 a.m. We will meet at the playground (Virginia Highlands Park, 1600
South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA 22202) by the restrooms, weather permitting. Pre-

Baby Bundles
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your
new baby arrives. A brief overview of the labor and delivery process, newborn care,
and baby proofing your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bag of free
baby care and safety items. Class is held July 25 from noon to 2 p.m. in the ACS

Darkness to Light- Stewards of Children
This course teaches adults simple and pro-active steps to help protect children
from sexual abuse. Open to parents, caregivers, and professionals. Class will be held
July 30 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Fort Belvoir ACS, 9800 Belvoir Rd., Bldg. 200.

MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening,
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services.
7. All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you

ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Anger Management workshops offered
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly,
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to
receive a certificate of completion.
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and

Stress workshops held Tuesdays
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan.
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military
retirees.

Traffic, Roads and Grounds
8. New – Barrier Maintenance
There will be scheduled preventive maintenance on the gate barriers on the Fort
Myer and Fort McNair portions of JBM-HH Aug. 5 through 7. Traffic interference is
expected to be minimal.
New – Columbia Pike construction continues
Full S. Quinn Street Closure – Weekend of June 26-27 (Weather Permitting)
On Saturday July 26 and Sunday July 27, S. Quinn Street will be fully CLOSED to all
traffic, and the right lane of Route 244 eastbound will be closed from 9am until 8pm on
Saturday and Sunday. This closure is to allow VDOT's contractor to safely install a new
Arlington County sanitary sewer manhole and pipe.
No vehicular traffic will be permitted to enter or exit S. Quinn Street from
Columbia Pike. Access to and from S. Quinn Street will be maintained as shown on the
attached Exhibit. The most direct route will either be through S. Rolfe Street or S. Queen
Street and adjoining side streets. During the S. Quinn Street closure, an Arlington
County police officer will assist in directing vehicles out at S. Rolfe Street during
daytime hours.
This weekend work is pending Arlington County completing their waterline
work on Route 244, so dates are subject to change.
