New -- Labor Day holiday hours shared
Labor Day, the federal holiday, is Monday, Sept. 2. See

New -- Something new, easier, better is coming
Beginning Monday, Sept. 16, we’re going to do something different with the way you
receive the Bulletin. You’ll still get all the information, and you’ll get the notice -- just like with
this one -- but you’ll be able to click on a link and go to a PDF.
This will be easier on the eyes, and the new format on Slideshare will allow you to view the
bulletin anywhere, at your convenience, not just at your government desktop email. You also
have the capability to download the PDF.
New -- Pre-Labor day picnic
The Marine Club hosts a Pre-Labor Day picnic Thursday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2
p.m. on the Marine Landing Deck. The event is free to Headquarters and Service
Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall personnel. Everyone is
welcome and guests pay $13 (cash only). The picnic menu includes hamburgers and
hotdogs, veggie burgers, grilled chicken, sides, and frozen beverages. Plus, everyone
receives a free six-piece mini apple cider donut plate with two toppings from Mama’s
2. Donut Bites. A deejay and the MCCS “Great Gift Card Giveaway” are part of the fun for
all.

New -- Enjoy ‘First Friday’
Help make a tradition of First Friday each first Friday of the month from 4:30 until 11
p.m. at the Marine Club on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base. The next First
Friday is Sept. 6.
New flavors of wings, including spicy buffalo, honey BBQ, Caribbean jerk and Thai
sweet curry, will be available for 40 cents each from 4:30 to 9 p.m. A deejay will start at
6:30 p.m., and drink specials are available from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The event is open to all Department of Defense ID card holders and their guests.

New -- New in town?
Marine Corps Community Services has a wealth of information for newly arrived
Marines and their families. The next Welcome Aboard brief is Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 8
to 10:30 a.m., at the Marine Club aboard the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall. A free walking tour of the Henderson Hall portion follows the brief,
and, after a break for lunch, there is a bus tour of the local area, including downtown
Washington, D.C., starting at 12:30 p.m.

New -- New degree available
The Fort Myer Education Center and Old Dominion University announce that
starting with the Spring 2014 term, an MSEd in Counseling (with concentrations in
Mental Health or School Counseling) will be offered at ODU’s Fort Myer site.

Gates, barrier maintenance time
The periodic preventive maintenance work will be done on Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall gate bollards and pop-up barriers Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,
Sept. 4, 5 and 6 according to the following schedule:

Traffic disruption will be minimal during the work, but use caution when traveling
through the gates during this time. Expect to hear testing of a speaker system at the
same time.

Family Readiness
New -- Adecco Military Spouse Intake
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center hosts the Adecco Military Spouse
Career Connections intake session Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in Building 29
aboard the Henderson Hall side of the joint base. Military spouses seeking employment
are encouraged to attend and interview for employment opportunities. The
opportunities may include temporary to permanent and/or direct hire. While on site,
candidates will have the chance to complete an Adecco profile, assessments according
to their skill sets, and, if qualified, hiring paperwork.

“Smooth Move” is an informal joint service brief for service members planning to
PCS, and will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn about your new duty

Transportation Office, Sponsorship, housing and more in Building 12 on the Henderson
Hall side of the joint base.
