This first In Brief session of 2013/14 explored individual learning plans (ILPs). Ofsted has been critical on the monitoring of learner progress. Issues such as poor target setting, inaccurate data and low levels of use throughout the organisation will be considered.
This session will explore ILPs in large organisations and how to make the data work. We will also look into ILPs in smaller providers as seen in the Work Based Learning (WBL) sector.
- Clare Holden (Loughborough College) will be providing an overview of their developments; and
- Mick Gilroy (Aspire, Lincoln College) will provide an insight into how ILPs can be implemented in work-based learning.

19. About Aspire
Aspire is the Work Based Learning Department of Lincoln College.
Completed a merger with ISIS Training in June 2013.
I was formerly the E-learning Manager of ISIS Training.
Now an ICT Instructor, with responsibility for E-learning within Aspire.
20. History of ILP’s
Traditionally paper based, mainly due to signature requirements.
Introduction of E-portfolios created the opportunity for Electronic ILP’s.
Info in ILP’s was being duplicated in paper and electronic format.
All forms could be created with the system and automatically linked together to
create a full ILP.

24. Reason for Changing
The merger between ISIS – Lincoln College provided the perfect
opportunity.
Too much duplication of data, time consuming and frustrating.
OneFile was the perfect platform for creating electronic ILP’s.
Ability to create and customise forms and, link data.
25. How it works
The ILP template in OneFile was customised to meet our needs.
All data entered onto OneFile is linked to the ILP.
A range of data forms were created to capture any additional information and
also linked to the ILP.
ILP becomes an organic document that can be constantly changed and updated.

Continue to develop E-Learning, E-Assessment and data capture to
reduce and eventually eliminate paper.
Extensive use of smartphones with learners utilising the OneFile
NOMAD app.
Includes encouraging learners to capture evidence themselves and do
remote learning and assessments.
