JISC Collections licenses and purchases resources for higher education and further education institutions in the UK to save institutions time and money. They provide a catalogue of resources available by subscription on their website. Some of their key resources highlighted include ebooks available for free until 2014, Primal Pictures anatomy images available free until 2015, journal archives containing over 600 journal titles, and historic books from 1475-1900. โข JISC Collections licence and purchase resources for HE and the FE sector, to save
time and money
โข Our JISC Collections website has a comprehensive catalogue of the resources
available to subscribe to โ usually the college librarian is person who manages this
process. http://www.jisc-collections.ac.uk
โข Our resources sometimes have access restricted โ usually by IP Address (so we
recognise the address of the computer) or by Federated Access (sometimes known
as Shibboleth or OpenAthens)
โข This year we have added a number of new resources as well as some low cost
subscriptions that I would like to highlight to you now
4. Commercial Resources
โข These resources are not free but we have
negotiated a discount for FE
โข General OneFile and InfoTrac (241 colleges
subscribing)
โ Content includes more than 7,800 full-text titles;
more than 3,600 refereed journals; and hundreds of
newspapers total of in excess of 12,500 titles in all
โข Britannica Online (121 colleges)
โข E-law Student (88 colleges) โ material aimed at A
Level Law students
5. E-books for FE
โข 3000 titles bought โ free of charge until 2014
โข 35 million pages viewed
โข Currently undertaking a procurement exercise
for more titles that will be available by the
end of the summer
โข Looking to see if we can extend the free of
charge access to the collection for another
year
6. Primal Pictures
โข Primal Pictures has been licensed nationally on
behalf of all FE institutions.
โข The resource features medically accurate 3D
images of human anatomy, and helps teachers
and learners in medical science, healthcare and
sports studies, amongst others.
โข Free for all FE Colleges until August 2015 (central
purchase by JISC Collections)
โข Over 230 colleges have registered for access,
which would ordinarily cost them ยฃ1000 a year.

โข Publishers: Brill, CUP, ICE, IOP, OUP, PAO, RSC
and T&F
โข Not a rolling archive โ all journals have fixed start
and end dates
