Media evaluation Question 1
1. Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Comparing To Other Films
• Our film is a typical, action based thriller which is
mainly shown in a chase scene.
• A hit thriller is normally one which people have a
goal to achieve and would do anything in their
path to get in completed. Something or someone
could also be added to the question to prolong
the goal in such a way that is action based and
more exciting than a plain and simple story line.
• With that in mind we were inspired by films such
as James Bond, The Bourne Identity and Die Hard
as all three of them had an enemy in the film
increasing the action to the film which we found
very appealing.
3. Comparing To Other Films
James Bond-Skyfall
Train fight scene
The Bourne Ultimaum-
Waterloo chase scene
Die Hard
4. Comparing To Other Films
• Notice through the development of my blog, I
always had the idea of a busy Waterloo Station
chase scene. The Borne Ultimatum Waterloo
Chase scene inspired me greatly and although we
did not go ahead with that due to legal reasons,
as director that stayed in my head when filming
shots.

5. Comparing To Other Films
• Again, if you look at my development through
my blog, I chose the costumes which were
similar to the smart suits used in James Bond
hoping a James Bond theme was shown in the
film. We did not want a school film look in our
film we wanted a film looking as professional
as possible and the James Bond franchise
shows costumes can give good impressions.
6. Die Hard
• Die hards content was too high budget to
influence us with the use of explosions, fast
cars etc but what originally caused myself to
watch the Die Hard films was the name
because it a very short and snappy name
which drew people towards the film. We
wanted something which screamed action
thriller, similar to Die Hard but slightly more
subtle. This is how the film Die Hard
influenced our film.
7. Why We Kept To The Conventions Of
The Form
• Keeping conventions of classic, famous thriller films was
important to us so that it was almost certain to be
appealing to our target audience.
• In terms of why we kept things the same, once our film
was complete we were very happy with it because
between shots the film seemed to flow quiet nicely
resulting in our film looking quiet good.
• We kept how our film felt because with the props and
costumes, variety of camera angles and good chase
scene(for the time given) there was a really good feel to
the film and in some shots it felt like a combination
between James Bond and the Bourne films which is what
we wanted so meant we didn’t really want to change the
feel of the film.
8. Why We Kept To The Conventions Of
The Form
• On a whole our film did behave similar to the
professional films we were inspired by with a good
combination of tracking/moving shots and stationary
shots. We did have to reshoot a number of shots due
to the lighting and wrong use of camera shots. Due to
our destination changes we started filming a lot later
than we planned so nearer the end of our shoot some
shots were shot in very dark light. We continued
filming but after looking at the footage we did think
that professional films would not have light changes
through the film so to try and give our film that extra
professional standard we reshot a lot of scenes to keep
the consistency of shots very high.
9. Did We Challenge The Typical
Conventions Of A Thriller Film?
• Most of the shots taken did follow the classic
conventions of a thriller film simply because we
did not want to imply different things with the
wrong camera angles etc.
• On the other hand you could say that we did
challenge the typical conventions of a thriller
because in most cases the ‘goodie’ normally
emerges victorious and although this is only the
opening to our film it unclear as to who the good
character is so adds instant suspense within two
minutes of the film whereas a typical thriller has
a storyline at this point.
