16-20 July and Level I is 1-2 Aug. NO FREE CHILD CARE available at this time. The Summer Marathon is a
full week of learning and covers all three levels of AFTB training. Level I courses are the building blocks for new
spouses and Soldiers to help ease them into Army culture. It teaches Army basics to include acronyms, Chain of

Volunteer Management Information Systems (VMIS) -- The Army has designed an online volunteer management
tracking system. If you are a volunteer, by AR 608-1, you MUST be registered with this system prior to
volunteering. VMIS 101: held the second Tuesday of each month from 0900-1000 in Rooms 140 & 150 of the
Education Center. The VMIS-101 orientation will guide you through the different sections necessary to help you
to properly register as a Fort Drum Volunteer and maintain your volunteer record. Whether it's registering online
or in-putting hours and updating your profile, this orientation will navigate you through the system with ease.
Volunteer of the Month Ceremony: August 23, 1030, the Commons. Please come out and show your thanks and
support to our wonderful Fort Drum volunteers.

EFMP is designed to assist Soldiers and Families with Family members that have special needs. These needs can be
for any Family member and may include educational, continuous medical, physical and/or mental disabilities. EFMP
Support Group: 2nd Tuesday of each month, 1130-1300. EFMP Autism Support Group: 2nd Friday of each month from
0900 – 1100. Respite Care: Please call EFMP for information on this program that provides Families support service
to all Family members enrolled in the program. EFMP Mountain Camp: 6-10 August, a week of various activities on
and off the post. Campers must be enrolled in EFMP and CYSS and be between the ages of 4-18. Buddies
(volunteers) and campers will enjoy a week of events and activities. Events will include: swimming, art and craft, white
water rafting, skating and other events.

Did you know that a married E-4 makes enough money to be considered middle-class? If your standard of living
doesn’t feel like middle class, you would likely benefit from one of our financial seminars, classes, or confidential
counseling. Look for Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) on July 18, 0900-1130 in the ACS. Budget & Account
Management, 23 July, 0930-1200, is the foundation for building wealth and avoiding debt. As always, we have
the 1st Term Soldier Financial Readiness Training every Wednesday from 0830-1600 (except Independence
Day). You may attend the whole day or any part of the day as a walk-in. ALL spouses are welcome to any of
our training events or classes.

Military and Family Life Consultants (MFLC) offer problem solving, solution focused counseling to Service members,
civilians, Families, couples, and children. Consultants help military service members cope with normal responses to
stress resulting from Army life, deployment and reintegration. Among other topics, MFLCs address communication
skills, stress management, grief and loss, workplace stress, decision-making skills, and forming strong Families. They
answer their phones from 0800-2000 and offer same day appointments. MFLC conversations are off the record
except for the mandate to report and secure help for those in danger. No referral is needed, they meet after duty
hours, and it’s free. Walk in appoints are available at ACS Mon.-Fri. from 0800-1700.

ACS Outreach focuses on three main areas to help Soldiers and Families develop a sense of self reliance as well as a
sense of belonging to the community. The focus areas include education, prevention, and direct services. Outreach
evaluates the unit’s needs, coordinates services and delivers ACS programming to Soldiers and Families. Information

The Fort Drum SFAC provides priority non-medical services to Soldiers and Families assigned to the 3rd BN, 85th IN
Warrior Transition Unit, Soldiers, and Families enrolled in the Medical Evaluation Board, and Families who have a
Soldier being cared for at Walter Reed/Brook Army Medical Center or other Military Treatment Facilities that still live in
the Fort Drum area. The SFAC provides services on-site at the SFAC facility (Room B1-40 and B1-32, Clark Hall), bring
forward services on a part-time basis, or establish priority appointments on behalf of these Warriors and Families to
assist in this transitional time. The SFAC is sponsoring a weekly information discussion get together for all Soldiers

The Fort Drum Survivor Outreach Services honors Soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the security of our
nation by supporting and caring for their survivors. The Army is committed to providing sustained support to surviving
Family members to ease their loss and help them through a very difficult time. The Fort Drum SOS Service area
encompasses the North Country through the Northern Adirondacks to the Vermont Border and has identified 160
surviving Family members to date. Efforts are ongoing to verify the contact information and outreach to these
Families. SOS facilitates support groups where Families and individuals can share feelings, concerns, thoughts,
resources, and information in a safe and understanding setting. Maintain personal contact with Survivor Families with
phone calls, cards, and mailings as well as other forms of electronic media. Offers onsite professional financial
counseling to assist Families in adjusting to their unique monetary circumstances following the loss of a loved one.
Coordinates and provides information on special memorials, grief camps, special events and opportunities for
Surviving Families to gather together with others. Upcoming events include Over the Rainbow Grief Camp for Kids 31
July 2012

Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS), Bldg T-2190 Nash Blvd. BOSS hours of operation are 1100 – 2300,
Wednesday through Sunday, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Call the BOSS Center at 772-7807 for more
information. Enjoy a movie on a warm summer evening in the great outdoors. Shown at the BOSS center in the rear
lawn this activity is offered compliments of BOSS. 21 Jump Street (R) will be playing starting at sundown. Bring your

folding chairs, blankets, bug spray and snacks. Pop corn and drinks will be sold. This event is open to all Soldiers,

are ongoing through 17 August. Start Smart Soccer: is designed to reach children the basic skills necessary to play
organized soccer. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents kicking, dribbling, trapping, and throw-
in/agility skills. Registration is from 8 June – 20 July 2012. Sessions 21 July – 25 August 2012. Pop Warner
Cheerleading – Tiny Mites, Mighty Mites and Pee-Wee –Enrollment ongoing Season starts 1 August. Volunteer

Youth Center: 6th Grade Students will be eligible to participate in the Middle School Day Camp and our after school

 July and August brings much Family transition. Schools will be on a reduced hourly schedule in the summer. Some
 buildings may be closed entirely. New Families should contact the SLO office for correct contact information to the
 schools for registration purposes. District offices remain open all year round and information on registration can
 also be obtained through those offices as well. Families leaving Fort Drum can contact the SLO office for SLO info
 at their next duty station. August regents testing will be held on the 16th and 17th. CYSS has many educational
 opportunities for your children to engage in during the summer contact Parent Central Services at 772-8675.

It’s finally June, and that means warm weather, no school, and kids on bicycles. Did you know that bicycles are
associated with more childhood injuries than any other consumer product except automobiles? Sadly, child bicycling

deaths increase 45% above the average during the summer months. With this knowledge, would you let your child
ride without a helmet? So, make wearing a bike helmet a rule every time you or your child rides a bike. It’s the single
most effective safety device available to reduce head injury and death from a bicycle crash. In order to maximize
protection, ensure the helmet fits properly. A helmet should sit on top of the head in a level position, and should not
rock forward, backward or side to side. The helmet straps must always be buckled but not too tightly. If you have any
questions or need assistance fitting your child’s helmet please call or visit the Command safety office at M10282 4th

The Commissary will be opened on July 4th from 0900-1500. There will be NO Early Bird Shopping. At the end
of July the Commissary will be having a Farmer Market on 28 & 29 July. Hopefully it will be outside weather
permitting. Visit our deli/bakery for holiday cakes and cookies for your picnics and family gatherings. We will
have some sidewalk sales for the month of July featuring soda and water and picnic items.

Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday, 0900-1700. Equipment rental and outdoor gear is available for rent. Daily,
weekend, and weekly fee schedules are available. Plan your out of state vacation at Parks & Recreation.
Discounted tickets are offered to include hotel accommodations. Plan your cruise or foreign vacations at a discounted
rate. RV/trailer/camper storage lots are available for $20 per month. Lots may be rented with a six month payment up
front, or full payment if deployed. If you’re having a party Parks & Recreation has inflatable bouncers and popcorn,
snowcone, and cotton candy machines for rent. Walt Disney World’s Military Salute 2011; four theme parks, four days
for only $138. Skeet/Trap Range is open for the season. Range fee rental is $5/hour for $100 for 12 months.
Shotguns are available for rent at $20 per day. Archery Range (Indoor/Outdoor) is now open for the season. Range
fee rental is $5/hour or $100 for 12 months. Bows are available for rent at a cost of $20. Please contact Parks &
Recreation for more information. Join our Hiking Club as we hike some of the biggest peaks in the Adirondacks. Look
for more trips to New York City and off Broadway plays in Syracuse and local theme parks. Reserve one of our brand
new campers for rent. Boats are now ready for rent and the water. Call 772-8222 for more information.

Skeet/Trap Range is open for the season. Range fee rental is $5/hour for $100 for 12 months. Shotguns are
available for rent at $20 per day. Archery Range (Indoor/Outdoor) is now open for the season. Range fee rental is
$5/hour or $100 for 12 months. Bows are available for rent at a cost of $20. Woodsball/Paintball located behind
Parks & Recreation is open. Cost is $30 for equipment and $40 for 2,000 rounds of paint. Units wishing to use the
paintball field during duty hours must schedule through Adventure Training, 772-6568. Wolf Lake Hike is scheduled
for 7-8 July. Fort Drum Hiking Club will be conducting an overnight hiking trip to Wolf Lake. Trip will depart at 0700 on
7 July from Parks and Recreation. Must have own equipment, food and water. Sign-up early as space is limited.
Ampersand Mountain Hike is scheduled for 14 July. Fort Drum Hiking Club will be conducting a trip to Ampersand
Mountain. Cost is $10 and sign-up is required. ATV Ride is scheduled for 28 July. Cost is $40 and and must have
completed the ATV safety course. Cost for passengers is $5. Come join Parks & Recreation on an ATV ride on the
Tug Hill. Trip will depart Parks & Recreation at 0800. Must sign up for events in person at Parks & Recreation. No

Recreational Vehicle (RV) Campground and Cabins are available. The RV campground has campers in place
available to rent as well as open spaces for visitors to bring their own campers. Adirondack style cabins are also
available and are fully equipped with a kitchenette, sitting room, and sleeping accommodations for up to six. While
there check out scenic Remington Park with its wilderness hiking and biking trails, playgrounds, beach and picnic
areas. Dog Park Kennel Play Area is located at Remington Park just before Hillside Lake Lodge. The large fenced in

area is designed to give pets a place to run with adult owner/handler. Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Beach
area is open Monday-Friday, 1100-1900 and Saturday and Sunday 0900-1900. Call Remington Park at 772-4765 for

NEW hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 0900 – 1800; Friday and Saturday, 1030 – 1800. Closed Sundays and
Federal holidays. Join the McEwen Library for ―Reading is Sooooo Delicious― Summer Reading Club. This summer
long self-paced program is designed to work around family vacations block leave and the rest of your family’s busy
summer schedule. This year to go with the theme we’ll be doing a cookbook. Each participant will get to contribute
one favorite family recipe. The Summer Reading Program will run through 18 August. Open to kids from preschool to
12th grade. Call the Library at 772-9099 for more information. McEwen Library Used Book Sale will be conducted 27-
28 July. Adult books will be 50 cents, children’s books 25 cents, movies and CD’s $1. On 28 July starting at 1300, all
you can fit in a bag for $1. Come early for best selection, come late for best prices. Cash only, please bring small
bills or change!. Volunteers needed to work sale. Set-up on Thursday evening and take down Saturday afternoon. If

to donate used books for sale may bring them to the library circulation desk. Proceeds benefit MWR activities.
Children’s Story Time for Preschoolers is offered Tuesdays and Fridays, 1000-1045. Materials checked out from
another local public library, or another Army library, can be returned here. We will ship them back to the library you
borrowed them from. Spanish language books are now available for children and adults. Large print books are now

class to use Auto Crafts welding equipment) will be held on 5 July at 1500. Basic Brakes Class will be held on 12 July
at 1500. Class will go over the basics of disc and drum brakes, ABS system, and the difference between inner and
outer bearings and hubs. Emissions Class (mandatory class to use Auto Crafts emissions testers) will be held on 19
July at 1500. Class teaches how to use emissions tester that checks check engine lights will save you time and
money. Heating and Cooling Class will be held on 26 July at 1500. This class will go how to check the cooling system,
looking at how the heating system works, and checking air conditioning making sure it works on hot days.

CURFEW - Garrison Policy Memorandum #11-18, Fort Drum Curfew for Minor Children. The curfew applies to
minors, defined as 17 years of age or younger, who live or work on, travel to or visit Fort Drum. The curfew hours are
from 2200hrs - 0500hrs Sundays through Thursdays and from 2400hrs - 0500hrs Fridays and Saturdays. This means
that minors meeting the age defined in the policy cannot be outside the home unsupervised during the times
mentioned above. The Directorate of Emergency Services Law Enforcement Division will be enforcing this Policy.
Violation of the policy may result in an appearance before the Juvenile Disciplinary Control Board. Bicycle Safety –
Make sure children are riding their bicycles using the proper safety equipment and following the rules of the road. All
personnel riding bicycles on Fort Drum are required to wear an approved Safety Helmet. Contact DES at 772-9090

Mondays, the Rhicard Hills community center on Wednesdays, the Adirondack Creek community center on
Thursdays, and the Crescent Woods community center on Fridays. All lunch programs run from 1130-1230. For
residents of Mountain Community Homes we have several resident events in July and August. The annual Beautiful
Baby Contest will be held between 1 July-31 July. Bring a picture of your child along with your contact information to

The Civil Air Patrol is open to boys and girls (cadets) ages 12-20 and adult members 18-up. The squadron cadets
learn leadership, customs and courtesies, drill and ceremonies, and emergency services. Adults can teach and
mentor cadets or perform emergency service missions, primarily search and rescue. The squadron meets in building
M431A, South Post, Fort Drum, every Friday 1800-2000. There are also various activities throughout the year such as
field exercises and training events that take place on the weekends. Anyone that is interested can stop in and visit or

The off-post housing rental market continues to have less than 2% available rentals being reported from the area’s
largest apartment complexes. As of 18 June 12, there were 77 adequate rental units available for rent off-post. These
apartments range from one to four bedroom units available. The rental market changes daily please check with

the high market demand, check back often for changes and be prepared to move fast when apartments
become available. Fort Drum continues to work closely with off-post officials in getting new housing projects started.
There are currently some 1,100 new apartment units under construction or approved, financed and about to start. An
additional 200+ units are in the final planning stages, some with incentive financing provided by State and Local
governments, that could also start this year. We expect over 1,300 new rental units will be opened in late 2012
through 2014. Additionally several housing developers are building for sale homes in new subdivisions close to post
that will be affordable to grades E6 and higher and offer the same amenities as on-post housing. Information on
available homes for sale can be found at: www.nnymls.com There continues to be hundreds of homes for sale from
$50,000-$175,000 in a 30 mile radius of Fort Drum in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. With an
unusually large number of Soldiers expected to PCS or ETS this summer, expect delays in scheduling the
available movers with the Transportation office. Plan ahead, get your orders as soon as possible, and
schedule your move early. The Home Affordable Modification Program, also known as HAMP, is a federal
program of the United States set up to help eligible home owners with loan modifications for their home mortgage.
The target of the program is 7 to 8 million struggling homeowners at risk of foreclosure by working with their lenders to
lower monthly mortgage payments. The Program is part of the Making Home Affordable Program which was created
by the Financial Stability Act of 2009. The program was built as collaboration with lenders, investors, securities,
mortgage servicers, the FHA, the VA, FHLMC, FNMA, and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to create standard
loan modification guidelines for lenders to take into consideration when evaluating a borrower for a potential loan
modification. Under recently announced changes to HAMP, which will go into effect 1 June, military homeowners and
other families who are permanently displaced by a job-related move may still qualify as owner-occupants, which
means they may still qualify for a HAMP mortgage modification. The new criteria states that a borrower may qualify if
he or she: Is displaced due to an out-of-area job transfer such as PCS orders and was occupying the home as a
principal residence immediately prior to the displacement; Intends to return to the home at some point in the future;
and does not own any other single-family real estate. Military and other families who do own other residential
properties may still qualify for a HAMP modification under expanded opportunities available for rental properties
announced by Treasury in January. They also may qualify for a short sale through Treasury's Home Affordable
Foreclosure Alternatives Program (HAFA). Our service members deserve our full support. We don't want any member
of our military to be forced by financial challenges to leave their family behind. This would be a heartbreaking decision
for any family, but it's especially tough for military families, who often face long periods of separation during
deployment. These changes to HAMP are one way Treasury and the CFPB are working together to support military
families and the many other hardworking families struggling to maintain homeownership.

Hours of operation: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 0830-1600. Closed on Thursdays. Internal and external
parasite prevention is strongly recommended year-round, but it becomes even more important during warmer months,
when insects are more active. Fleas and ticks (which carry Lyme and other diseases) are prevented with a monthly
topical medication. Heartworms (carried by mosquitoes) and intestinal parasites are prevented with a monthly
chewable medication. For especially active/outdoor animals, we also offer Leptosporosis and Lyme Disease vaccines.
REGISTRATION / LICENSING: All dogs and cats living on Fort Drum MUST be registered with Fort Drum Veterinary
Services, within 45 days of arrival at Fort Drum. Dogs must also be licensed with the State of New York, with the town
clerk where the animal lives. Pets living on Fort Drum must be licensed with the city of LeRay. This requires proof of
a current rabies vaccination. MICROCHIPPING: Fort Drum requires that ALL dogs and cats living on post must be
microchipped. This ensures the return of your pet if lost (on post or off). Walk-in microchip clinics are held on Friday
mornings from 0900-1100. MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS: Vaccination, ―sick call,‖ and health certificates are available
on a scheduled basis only. We are normally booked 3-4 weeks in advance. As soon as you find out you are traveling
OCONUS, please contact us to ensure your pet meets the requirements for your destination. For medical conditions
requiring immediate care, we encourage you to pursue off-post treatment with a civilian practice. SURGERY: We
offer spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental cleanings. Surgeries can be scheduled starting on the 15th of each
month. LOST PETS: If you lose your pet on Fort Drum, please check this website (updated daily):
http://www.drum.army.mil/publicworks/pages/pets.aspx. To arrange pick-up or drop-off of lost/found pets, call the
Stray Facility (NOT the Vet Clinic) at 772-2072. FOOD MISSION: Veterinary Services ensures food safety for all
Dining Facilities, MWR facilities, AAFES vendors, the Commissary, and TISA. If you have any questions regarding

Did you know that bicycles are associated with more childhood injuries than any other consumer product except automobiles? Sadly, child bicycling 4

So, make wearing a bike helmet a rule every time you or your child rides a bike. It’s the single most effective safety device available to reduce head injury and death from a bicycle crash. In order to maximize protection, ensure the helmet fits properly. A helmet should sit on top of the head in a level position, and should not rock forward, backward or side to side. The helmet straps must always be buckled but not too tightly. The curfew applies to minors, defined as 17 years of age or younger, who live or work on, travel to or visit Fort Drum. This means that minors meeting the age defined in the policy cannot be outside the home unsupervised during the times mentioned above. There are currently some 1,100 new apartment units under construction or approved, financed and about to start. An additional 200+ units are in the final planning stages, some with incentive financing provided by State and Local governments, that could also start this year. We expect over 1,300 new rental units will be opened in late 2012 through 2014. Additionally several housing developers are building for sale homes in new subdivisions close to post that will be affordable to grades E6 and higher and offer the same amenities as on-post housing. Information on available homes for sale can be found at: www.nnymls.com There continues to be hundreds of homes for sale from $50,000-$175,000 in a 30 mile radius of Fort Drum in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. With an unusually large number of Soldiers expected to PCS or ETS this summer, expect delays in scheduling the available movers with the Transportation office. Plan ahead, get your orders as soon as possible, and schedule your move early. The Home Affordable Modification Program, also known as HAMP, is a federal program of the United States set up to help eligible home owners with loan modifications for their home mortgage. The target of the program is 7 to 8 million struggling homeowners at risk of foreclosure by working with their lenders to lower monthly mortgage payments. The Program is part of the Making Home Affordable Program which was created by the Financial Stability Act of 2009. The program was built as collaboration with lenders, investors, securities, mortgage servicers, the FHA, the VA, FHLMC, FNMA, and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to create standard loan modification guidelines for lenders to take into consideration when evaluating a borrower for a potential loan modification. Under recently announced changes to HAMP, which will go into effect 1 June, military homeowners and other families who are permanently displaced by a job-related move may still qualify as owner-occupants, which means they may still qualify for a HAMP mortgage modification. The new criteria states that a borrower may qualify if he or she: Is displaced due to an out-of-area job transfer such as PCS orders and was occupying the home as a principal residence immediately prior to the displacement; Intends to return to the home at some point in the future; and does not own any other single-family real estate. Military and other families who do own other residential properties may still qualify for a HAMP modification under expanded opportunities available for rental properties announced by Treasury in January. They also may qualify for a short sale through Treasury's Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program (HAFA). Our service members deserve our full support. We don't want any member of our military to be forced by financial challenges to leave their family behind. This would be a heartbreaking decision for any family, but it's especially tough for military families, who often face long periods of separation during deployment. These changes to HAMP are one way Treasury and the CFPB are working together to support military families and the many other hardworking families struggling to maintain homeownership. 19.
