Relationship to International Standards
Research has been conducted to explore how an English for Professionals Exam score relates to standard international
scales that describe language proficiency. The corresponding scores or levels provided are based on the relationships
observed in these studies.
CEFR The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is a widely recognized scale created by the Council
of Europe to describe the language competencies of individuals. The six reference levels (see below) are
offered as the European standard for referencing an individual's language proficiency. This framework also
serves as a broader, global standard for language learning providers and policy-makers.
GSE The Global Scale of English (GSE) is reported on a scale from 10 to 90. The GSE has been aligned to the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and provides a common, empirically validated
equivalence for Pearson tests measuring English ability.

The corresponding scores or levels provided are based on the relationships observed in these studies. CEFR The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is a widely recognized scale created by the Council of Europe to describe the language competencies of individuals. The six reference levels (see below) are offered as the European standard for referencing an individual's language proficiency. This framework also serves as a broader, global standard for language learning providers and policy-makers. GSE The Global Scale of English (GSE) is reported on a scale from 10 to 90. The GSE has been aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and provides a common, empirically validated equivalence for Pearson tests measuring English ability.
