Notes:
1) The rPerf (Relative Performance) is an estimate of commercial processing performance. It is derived from an IBM analytical model which uses
characteristics from IBM internal workloads, TPC and SPEC benchmarks. The rPerf model is not intended to represent any specific public benchmark
results and should not be reasonably used in that way. The model simulates some of the system operations such as CPU, cache and maximum memory
available. However, the model does not simulate disk or network I/O operations.
2) The rPerf results of IBM eServer p5 systems are based on AIX 5L V5.3 which supports simultaneous multi-threading. Simultaneous multi-threading
results in a 30% boost in rPerf. For purposes of estimating rPerf for AIX 5L V5.2 on eServer p5 systems divide the published rPerf number by 1.3 and round
down to the nearest 1/100th

• Reduce costs by increasing
asset utilization
• Redeploy talent to manage
your business, not your

• Rapidly provision new servers
“"We have taken major steps to simplify our
infrastructure by leveraging virtualization
technologies with POWER Linux and Integrated
xSeries Solutions on the iSeries. Prior to our
server consolidation we spent 95% of our time
just keeping our systems and network running.
Now we spend 5%.”

Some information addresses anticipated future capabilities. Such information is not intended as a definitive statement of a commitment to specific levels of performance, function or delivery
schedules with respect to any future products. Such commitments are only made in IBM product announcements. The information is presented here to communicate IBM's current investment
and development activities as a good faith effort to help with our customers' future planning.
Performance is based on measurements and projections using standard IBM benchmarks in a controlled environment. The actual throughput or performance that any user will experience will
vary depending upon considerations such as the amount of multiprogramming in the user's job stream, the I/O configuration, the storage configuration, and the workload processed. Therefore,
no assurance can be given that an individual user will achieve throughput or performance improvements equivalent to the ratios stated here.
Photographs shown are of engineering prototypes. Changes may be incorporated in production models.

Editor's Notes With the Statement of Direction 1 to support AIX in a logical partition in the future, the iSeries continues to open further consolidation opportunities for customers who want to deploy UNIX solutions in a single infrastructure server alongside OS/400 and iSeries other application environments. Customers will also benefit from the ongoing Autonomic computing initiative, designed to common, self-managed technologies across IBM eserver products. 1 Statement of Direction : Jan 2003 IBM plans to deliver an integrated management environment with services such as partitioning, hardware virtualization, and workload management for OS/400, AIX, and Linux applications on an IBM eServer. The new management environment will integrate OS/400, middleware, and enhancements from research and development to deliver dramatically enhanced partitioning, optimized asset utilization, and on-demand resource allocation for heterogeneous operating environments. IBM Virtualization Engine(TM) Platform services Enterprise Workload Manger, systems provisioning, Grid Toolbox, Director Multiplatform Platform technologies Hypervisors, Virtual I/O, VLAN The Hardware Management Console for eServer uses its connection to one or more systems (referred to as managed systems) to perform various functions, including the following: Creating and maintaining a multiple-partitioned environment, including command capability to run scripted operations such as performing resource movement between partitions or start up and shutdown of partitions. Up to a maximum of 254 logical partitions, which includes a combination of OS/400, Linux or AIX, will be supported through HMC, Displaying a virtual operating system session for each partition, including granular operator authentication and authorization Displaying virtual operator panel values for each partition, including Remote system and control panel. Detecting, reporting, and storing changes in hardware conditions and acting as a Service Focal Point and Service Agent by gathering and reporting system error events. Powering managed systems on and off Activating Capacity on Demand resources On POWER5-based iSeries servers, HMC also supports 5250 emulator to support OS/400 console operations along with support for vSLIP that provides TCP/IP pipe through Service Processor and Power Hypervisor to OS/400 partitions. No additional network adapters are required on the server for these functions.
