Editor's Notes
Welcome to the jain Way of Life..
We have a complex rich and multi-dimensional life.. We have a home where we live.. As kids.. Then we have friends Then we go off to college.. Get married Go to work place Raise our family.. While we’re doing this.. How do we know that we’re living and progressing and raising the bar in living a JWOL.. But first what is what is JWOL…
Our acharays have done a great job of defining the many aspects of our life based on core jain principles.. Look at this.. Incredible.. No religion or faith even comes close.. But change is invevitable.. The world is different now.. So we must change with time.. Of course we’re not talking about attributes of the Acharya Shravak/Shravika - practice minor vows (Anu-vrata) Faith in the liberation; 40 books on Shravakachar; two agams; - there are people who can attain moksha in the same life – but that is immaterial – our goal is here and now.. Nam Shravak – one who is boarn in Jain family Sthapana Shravak – statue or photograph of Shravak Dravya – Shravak – one who follows Jainism without deep faith Bhava Shravak – believes in Jainism and has deep faith; Three types of Shravak: Pakshika – householder who has inclination towards Ahimsa Naisthika – one who pursues path towards the Pratimas (spiritual path of layman) Sadhaka – one who concludes his human incarnation in the final purification of the self by performing Sanlekhana;
And this is the changed version.. If we were to classify today.. This is what the categories would look like..
So how do we measure our progress.. How do we know – should be go in this direction or that direction.. You see they have great deal of guidance in the scriptures.. However… some of these were written 1000’s of years ago.. The question is – in today world with MEDIA, cell phone, cars, homes, animal testing, etc. What are the guidelines.. Show Level 1 to Level 5: 15 seconds to mark the score… - Light Lights…
JAINA - Long Range Planning - Convention Meeting
My physical and spiritual being experiences this Other religions and other vocabulary talk about this – Thou shall not kill – Love others etc. First – let’s define Jain Way of Life – Jain Way of Life is life full of happiness, challenge, discovery, and spiritual growth for … JWOL is living life to the fullest – enjoying – not true .. no point JWOL is living a live grounded in thoughts words and speech of our three core principles…good First in NV one is Non-Violence – - nonviolence in our food –vegetainism in our speech –for giving even in our thoughts – Not just hurting but helping others Non possessiveness – examples … Non absolutism … Anekantvan – where we strive to keep our mind open and understand other views Non Possessiveness – where we balance our possessions – and desire for them
Excessive alcohol drinking – addiction, lose yourself; hard liquor
