1. Weatherproof DC Isolator
DC Isolator is basically a means of isolating the PV unit output from the
inverter. During the installation process of PV a critical part is the
protection and isolation of DC circuits.
A wide range of Weatherproof DC isolators are available which are also
designed to meet the standards. They are also easier to wire because of their
larger enclosure installers.
They are designed to provide high voltage ratings
and are available at reasonable prices. As
Weatherproof DC isolators are manufactured
using the latest mechanism they are totally
insulated and have threaded entry.
2. A Weatherproof DC isolator must be able to stand up to some tough use
and withstand harsh conditions. Some manufactures provide “plug-and-
play” isolation and protection device for DC circuits. This not only saves
time but also reduces the chances of errors.
Mostly they are TUV certified and have large body for easier cable
installation. In order to prevent PV from inadmissibly heating up, the
assembly of the contacts and the selection of material should be such that it
guarantees that no oxidation develops.
The most common features in all Weatherproof DC isolators are:
Pad lockable Handles
Easy Access & Switch Removal
Rohs Compliant
Flame Retardant Material
Interlocking Lid to ensure Removal in
OFF Position Only
IP6x rated
4 Pole Weatherproof Lockable enclosure
IP56 Weatherproof Rating
UV Resistant Enclosure
This Weatherproof DC isolator switch is used between DC PV arrays and
grid-connect inverters. Positioned adjacent to the inverter a DC switch is
required to provide a means of manually isolating the entire PV array
during system installation or any subsequent maintenance.
The primary benefit of such an arrangement is the ability to simultaneously
charge more than one battery from a single power source (e.g., an
alternator) without connecting the battery terminals together in parallel.
This is beneficial because a weak or dead battery will drain the charge from
a strong battery if both are connected directly together.
3. Weatherproof DC isolators are commonly used on recreational vehicles,
boats, utility vehicles, airplanes, and large trucks where one battery is
dedicated to starting and running the engine and another battery or
batteries run accessory loads (e.g., winches, radar, instruments, etc.).
A battery isolator helps to ensure that the starting battery has sufficient
power to start the engine and recharge the batteries if, for example, loads
on the auxiliary battery (e.g., refrigerator or navigation lights) cause it to be
drained, or if an auxiliary battery fails.
Isolators are also used in vehicles with large, high-power car stereos and off
road vehicles to accommodate high current loads such as a recovery winch.
