issued in 1995, which
created the Committee
for the Special
Protection of Children
(CSPC).

 It was enacted for the protection of the
rights of children and the youth.

 "unfortunately as we well know, the
situation of children in the world is not
always what it should be," especially "in
rich countries where bringing a child into
the world... (is often seen) more as a threat
than as a gift."
 The Pope further promoted adoption by
saying it was "a real exercise of charity that
places the good of children before the
parents' needs."
 During his speech the Pope also stated that
"In our time, the recognition of a child's
rights has seen progress, but suffering
remains because of the denial of these
rights in practice, manifested in numerous
attempts against his dignity."

Fund

role in social and cultural life in most
developing countries… there are
many more religious leaders than
health workers. They are in closer

groups in society and their voice is

“Children have rights in this country such as the right to education,
the right to enjoy their childhood years and the right to be taken
care of. There are a lot of rights that are violated in that kind of
work. I feel so lucky because I enjoyed my childhood years so much
and my rights were not violated. I love children so much that I can’t
take seeing them having a hard time with their lives. They should
be taken care of and they should have the right way of living
because we only live once and it shouldn’t be wasted.”
”As a Thomasian student, I can create a child friendly society by
making the older people especially the parents, aware of the right
age for employment or work. Parents should let their children
enjoy their childhood years because they will just experience it
once in their lives. After their childhood years, maybe the parents
can already ask their children to work for themselves. I am very
close to kids that’s why I know that I can make the society a child
friendly society. I don’t want them being abused or used for
inappropriate works. I want them to live a life full of fun. In my
own simple ways, I know that I can help in this issue. Maybe when I
grew older, I can already make a bigger change in the society.”

“Child labor is rampant especially in our country and I feel very
disappointed about it given the fact that some works too hard at a very young
age for their survival while other take their blessings for granted. These
children’s rights according to Convention on the rights of Children are being
violated in terms of Parental Responsibility, Abuse and Neglect and Education.
As much as I would like to blame the parents towards this issue, it seems
pointless and too subjective knowing that most parents really try their best to
raise their child in a comfortable way yet, the odds doesn’t seem to be in their
favor because honestly, life is not that fair. Everybody has been a children, and
I myself feels that being blessed compared to them should contribute my
share in making their childhood a better one through reaching out through
little things such as charity works or community service. Being a Thomasian
student I vow to contribute my best efforts in every activity it provides
because for me it is very important to protect and respect the rights of
children because it would serve as a foundation of their lifetime as a citizen,
and lastly in the future i know that once I become a parent I would devote
myself into deterring violation/abuse on my own children and influence as
much people as I can.”
