Restoration of in ground pools metal side wall problems
1. Restoration of in Ground Pools metal side wall problems
The following has a description about different in ground pool service/restoration methods for
damages caused in steel side walls. Some common wall problems include erosion on borders of skimmer
or return jet, erosion that leads to side wall split and actual split of wall.
Skimmer and return jet erosions on the border are the two frequent side wall problems in every house.
It is easy to overcome such problems by draining the pool to about a measurement of six inches. In the
mean time, remove the top rails on either side of the skimmers or return jet that constitutes about two
parts. After this step, Take out the coping, this is a piece of plastic holding liner. On that moment, the
pool should be drained to suffice, that enables you to remove skimmer or return jet.
At the same time give a gentle push up to the liner above the side wall and uncover the eroded skimmer
hole. Then, resolve a measurement for dissection so that you can get rid of the eroded part. For
Instance, you have to eliminate about 12X12 inches. Then, there comes a necessity of a galvanized metal
piece of about 24X24 inches so that it can block a 12X12 hole. This metal should be obsessed to be of
same thickness or more than what it needs to be. You can get to meet perfection, if you use a piece of
wall for sizing purpose.
After preparing the galvanized metal, it should be fixed in to the hole of skimmer on same plane. The
easiest way to position the replacement piece is to ensure that the top side wall and the replacement on
both sides are alike. This can be done by using a duct tape. Using an earth magnet on drill in a medium
speed while drilling makes your work easier and prevents the metal fillings off from your liner. Once it is
being positioned exactly, make the size of rivets for about 3/16 to ¼ inches. It is recommended to get a
bigger box because the spacing of 1 inch should be used.
Prepare a drilling layout. Adjust a line of about 1 inch from every edge and another line of about 3
inches. Drill a hole on every corners of 1 inch line. From each corner of the hole, take a measurement of
about 1 inch horizontally and vertically. From this point, measure about 3 inches and drill another hole.
You can exact your measurements by making sure that each hole is two inches apart from each corner
till the center.
Make a hole in the corner of the three inch line and another hole in every direction of about 2 inches
from corner. This should be in between the two rivets where you can drill the hole for your skimmer.
Finally, use a duct tape all over the metal edges then put back everything for your pool.
