1. Physical Education Workshops for Special Needs and Early Childhood

I. Physical Education For Students with Low Incidence
Activities and game adaptations for student’s with low incidence. This workshop will cover
fun individual and group activities that meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills(TEKS). Participants will activity participant in the activities and then will conclude with
sample stations and a Q&A. This workshop is designed for the self-contained teacher,
physical therapists, and the adapted physical education teacher.
I. Behavior Management Through Movement
This active half-day workshop will look at young student’s need to move and how educator’s
can use movement to curb off-task behavior and to enhanced student learning. Participants
will not only learn about classroom management but they will actively participate in fun
activities that will help reduce off-task behavior of young and special needs students.
Lecture, activities, and videos enhance this presentation.
II. Awesome PE
Is a fast paced, action packed workshop that gives teachers a bundle of fun, easy, and quick
physical games and activities to play with their students. The activities are designed for
student’s with special needs but every student will benefit from these activities. The
activities are taught with minimal equipment for small or large classes. Many of the games
presented in this workshop can be played outdoor, inside, in a gym, hall, or classroom. Over
50 games and ideas will be presented in the energetic six hour workshop. These activities
will enhance inclusion for special needs students in general education classes. Come
prepared to laugh and learn as you participate.
III. Inclusive PE
This half-day workshop is an active presentation that addresses what to do with special
needs students in the general PE classroom. The activities and strategies covered promote
positive social interaction between the general Ed PE students and the special need students
that come to their class. Activities and discussions will help general Ed physical education
teachers, classroom teachers, and para-teachers modify the general Ed PE activities for the
special needs student’s success. This workshop strives to reduce the anxiety of having a
special needs student(s) in the general PE class by equipping PE teachers with the skills and
information to make all students successful in their class.

2. IV. Fun Activities and Games that Make All Students Successful
This half-day workshop is an active presentation covering many games and activities that I
made up or adapted from my years of teaching regular elementary PE and adapted PE.
Many of the games and activities I will be presenting use homemade or adapted equipment.
It is my goal that attendees will leave this presentation with a wealth of ideas and activities
to use with all of their students while having fun participating.
V. Brockport Physical Fitness Test
This half-day workshop will cover how to use the Brockport Physical Fitness Test. This will
be part lecture, demonstration and participation. We will cover the 27 different sub-tests that
make up the BPFT. We will also play different activities that teachers can use to prepare their
students for he various test components. Many of the games and activities will enhance the
students strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacity.
About the Presenter:
Jeff Key, M.Ed, has been a physical educator for over 28 years. He has taught and coached adapted
physical education to elementary, Junior High, High School, and college students. Jeff has taught
general and special Education PE classes. He has also taught at the National Adapted Physical
Education Conference, Texas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance
(TAHPERD), he is the Past Chair of the Adapted PE section of TAHPERD. He has taught numerous
workshops on fitness and physical education throughout the state at Regional Service Centers. He is
currently an Instructor at Texas Tech University teaching future teachers how to teach elementary PE. I
also teach fitness & physical activity classes for the TTU Burkhart Center for Autism and for High Point
Village special needs enrichment facility.
