Sources with One Author
• Antokal states, “This is an acceptable way to cite your
sources” (2010, p. 1).
• Antokal (2010) states, “This is an acceptable way to cite
your sources” (p. 1).
• Antokal (2010, p. 1) states, “This is an acceptable way to
cite your sources, but it looks a little awkward. Try to avoid
this way.”
• One study found “This is an acceptable way to cite your
sources” (Antokal, 2010, p. 1).
Sources with 2 Authors
• Depending on how you set the quote up, you will
use the word “and” or “&”:
• Luongo and Zieger state, “This is an acceptable
way to cite your sources” (2010, p. 1).
• One study found that “This is an acceptable way
to cite your sources” (Luongo & Zieger, 2010, p.
1).
Sources with 3 or More Authors
At first mention:
• Antokal, Zieger, and Luongo state, “This is an
acceptable way to cite your sources” (2010, p. 1).
In subsequent uses:
• Antokal et al. state, “This is an acceptable way to cite
your sources” (2010, p. 1).
Internet Sources without Page
Numbers
• Antokal states, “If you use internet sources without
page numbers, use the paragraph number instead and
cite like this” (2010, para. 1).
• Antokal states, “If you use internet sources without
page numbers, use the paragraph number and you can
cite like this. Either one of these is correct, but
maintain consistency throughout your work” (2010, ¶
1).
• Another study found “If you are using a website
without an author, use a word or two from the article
title” (“APA Style,” 2010, para. 1).
Block Quotes
Antokal (2010) states:
If you are including a quote that is 40 words
or more you must create a block quote that
looks like this. Please notice that there are no
quotation marks when you use block quotes.
Also, the whole quote is indented by ½ inch.
We do not double space block quotes. The
period is included at the end of the quote,
not after the parenthesis. (p. 1)
Paraphrasing
• Basically the same format, but you don’t need
the page/paragraph numbers.
• There are different ways that you can
implement APA style into a paper (Antokal,
2010).

Number Rules
• Use words for numbers one through nine.
• Use numbers for numbers 10 and up.
– Exception: There will be 8 to 10 participants.
• Use numbers for age, time, and money.
• Only 5% said yes.
• Five percent said yes.
