2. This image of the main protagonist has
connotations of power and authority from the
characters costume. The glasses, tie, suit and
waistcoat show intelligence; giving the image
of the film’s genre a mystery/ action film.
Having the character not look directly at the
camera and his hands situated in his pockets
also imply that this character has authority and
status within the film. He is very well groomed
as well as being the largest image of the
promotion poster.

3. The review line has prestigious reviews from respectable press groups like “Empire”
giving more of a demand on the audience to watch the film.
The Film title is in solid red, capital writing giving it more emphasis than the review
line and billing box. Having the font slim, and in capitals also has connotations of
the film being quite mysterious as the font is slim and tall.
The billing box is the same font as the film title however is less important as it is a
smaller font and lots of information, which is effective at the same time as the
audience never usually reads the billing box unless they are looking for an actors
name.

4. This collection of characters also reinforce my previous point of the protagonist not
looking directly at the audience evoking a mysterious feel. It also creates
something for the audience to understand, but only when watching the film;
creating more of a demand to view the film . Having the characters all look in
different directions also relates directly back to the trailer of “Who is the
mole?”. The characters seem to be searching for the “mole” and depending on
whether they look to the left or right could show different sides of the
characters.

5. The setting and the props used
enforces the mystery/crime
genre, as the man walking
down a foggy street and sitting
in a low lit room around a
table evokes an anonymity
feel. The dark lit, foggy/misty
settings creates a sense of
unknown to the audience
which can make it more
appealing. The suitcase’s and
the gun props also provoke a
sense of importance and
crime. The suitcase
reappearing multiple times
promotes the idea that there
is a “business” type of crime.

6. The background has used a code
and symbols to add to the overall
effect of a mystery/ crime genre as
the codes are also over-layed in the
background images of the
characters, making the audience feel
that you cant trust any characters
apart from the protagonist. Making
the audience feel like they need to
know and understand more, then
leading to watching the film.
