The expression on the main characters face evokes a thriller horror film as his petrified look reflects to the audience and therefore makes it more personal to the audience and therefore more thrilling. The grey scale effect with the blue eye standing out creates more of a connection with the audience, as it makes his eye look more dominant in the image. However as half the protagonist’s face has been cut off can create an ere of suspense and a chilling feel. This image however tells us nothing about the character apart from that he will be the victim and hero in this movie.

3. This faded background image of this “woman” makes the poster an obvious thriller/horror film. However its one of the last things you notice on the poster so creates anticipation. Letting the audience know that this film will be chilling, spooky and full of suspense. This can appeal to an audience that enjoys horror movies. The face is not clear making it more mysterious and as it has been disfigured, ghost-like and eerie. The smoky effect is a classic convention of a horror movie and in this poster has been used effectively as a ghostly character, intertwined with “the woman in black”.

4. The font for the film title and the actors name is a white, faded font. Therefore creating the effect of a supernatural, eerie effect. The faded effect blends in with the shadowy mist to reinforce the horror/thriller genre of the film. The strap line of “Do you believe in ghosts?” ties in with the ghostly image in the background. It makes it more personal to the audience as it’s a direct question, therefore making it more intriguing for the audience to watch.
