HIS FACEIS SOOT-SMEARED.YOU SEE REFLECTIONSOF FLASHINGFIRELIGHTS. A MEDIC ENTERS HANDS

Medic:
Here you go Curt(HANDSCURT WATER).You doingok?Almostlostya inthere.
Curt:
Yeah,I'm fine,Jim...thanks.(LOOKINGATJIM).I owe youone.
(CURT LOOKSDOWN ANDREACHES FOR DRAGONFLYON SHOULDER).
Curt: (TALKINGTO DRAGONFLY)
I owe youone too.
FADE DOWN THEN UP ASCURT, DRESSED IN BLUE T-SHIRT ANDPANTS,WALKSOVER TO TABLE IN
FIREHOUSE. TABLE HAS SCBA PLUS TWO DRAGONFLYSA).
CURT:
That's one day I'll neverforget!Itwasa close one,tooclose.The dragonalmosthad me.Stairsgave 'way
and I wastrapped.Couldn'tsee,couldn'tmove,couldn'tyell forhelp.FortunatelymyDragonFlyPASS
didthe yellingforme.Itreallycame through.Itcriedfor helpwhenIcouldn't.
I use the DragonFlySA-Stand-Alone-PASSfromMSA...the same as you.It savedmylife andit can save
yourstoo!
However, like all yourequipment,it'simportanttoknow how the DragonFlySA worksandhow to use it.
Andthat's whywe're here today.
So,let'sbeginbylearningalittle more aboutthe DragonflySA PASS.First,notice thatthere's three
buttons... twoRESET buttons, than youcan use independentlyortogether, andanAlarmbutton. Each
pushbuttonisbigandeasyto operate,evenwiththick,protective gloves.
Unlike the integratedversions, the SA model isn'tapart of your MSA SCBA.
It's a stand-alone modelthatcompliesfullywiththe 1998 Editionof NFPA-one-nine-eight-one.A
standardrequiringall PASSEStoprovide ameansfor automaticactivation.
The DragonFlySA activatesautomatically usingatetheredkey.Here'show itworks...
(CUT TO FIREFIGHTER CLIPPINGDRAGONFLYTO SHOULDER STRAP,THEN ATTACHINGTETHER TO JUMP
SEAT OR SCBA STORAGE COMPARTMENT ON TRUCK).
Clipthe DragonFlytoyour turnoutgear or SCBA harness, andattach the tethertoa jumpseat, storage
compartment,locker,anyplace youstow yourSCBA.Then,whenyoujumpintoaction.. .
(CUT TO SPLIT SCREEN ACTION SEQUENCESOF FIREFIGHTER WALKINGFROMTRUCK STORAGE
HURRYING OUT OF JUMP SEAT. BOTH PULL TETHER ACTIVATINGDRAGONFLYSA).
. . .the alarm activates,automatically.Nothingextratoloosen,nothingextratoturn on,nothingextrato
remember.
(CUT TO CURT HOLDING DRAGONFLYSA).
An initial alarmfollowedbyflashinggreenlightsshouldhappeneverytime the unitturnson.They
remindyouthe DragonFlyison andworkingnormally.If itdoesn'thappen,don'tuse the unit.It'sthat
simple.Turnitinfor another.
The heart of the DragonFlyPASSisitsmotionsensorcalledaGyro-Trac.
(CUT TO ANIMATION OFMOTION SENSOR).
At itsheartis a flexible printedcircuitboardandphosphorbronze ball bearing.Asyoumove, the ball
bearingmoves,touchingthe circuitboardsensors.Aslongasthe sensordetectsmovement,the alarm
won'tgo off.
ThispatentedMSA designmakesthe DragonFlySA virtually immune tofalse alarmsorunintentional
resetsdue tovibrationat the scene.Inotherwords, itwon't cry wolf!
However,whenyou're introuble...trapped,andstopmovingfor18 seconds,the DragonFlygoes
througha seriesof alarms-three pre-alarmsandone full alarm.
Anytime duringthe pre-alarmsequences,(HOLDUNITSTILL UNTIL PRE-ALARMSOUNDS,THEN SHAKE) a
slightmovementtakesthe DragonFlybacktoits normal watchdogmode.
Nowwatch andlistenasthe unit jumpsthroughthe variousalarm sequences...
(CURT STANDSSTILL TO DEMONSTRATE).
The firstpre-alarm(SOUND). Foursecondslater(SOUND)...a final warning(SOUND),then...
At full alarm,the DragonFlySA emitstwoalternating,95-decibel,alarmtones.Loud,distinctive,
recognizable,evenoverambientnoisesatthe fire ground.
Once in full alarm,it'svirtuallyimpossibletodeactivate accidentally.Youmust,inrapidsuccession,
pressreset,twice,(PRESSRESETTWICE).An intentional,yeteasyaction,evenwithgloves!And
remember,youcanuse eitherResetbutton.
If you needimmediate help, justpressthe Alarmbuttontostepthe DragonFlySA intofull alarmstatus.
Again,thisactionmustbe intentional!
Whenyou're readyto turn the unitoff,youmust firstreattachthe key,thenpressResettwice.Youcan't
turn the DragonFlyoff until youattach the key.
Duringrehab, youmay want to shutoff the unitwithoutbeingtethered,so,youcanuse a portable
RehabKey.Then,whenyou're readytore-enterthe fire scene,(CURTPULLSOUT REHAB KEY) easy!
To attach the DragonFly,pull downtounlockthe clip, slide itontothe harness, andlockit.(SHOW
ATTACHED UNIT TO BELT).
If the material istoothick, try rotatingthe clip. The cliphas a slightbendsoyou can adjustitfor thinner
or thickermaterial.
To adjust,unhookthe clip,workitout of the twoslots,rotate,andreinsert.
There'snow more room to clipthe unitto a thickershoulderstrap.
The tetheriseasy tofastento anythingstationary...a jumpseat,SCBA storage compartment,orlocker.
It takesjusta fewseconds.Simplyremovethe keyfromthe PASS,loopitaroundandslide the key
throughthe loop.Remembertoreattachit tothe stowedDragonFly.
The body forthe DragonFlyis made froma glass-filledthermosetcomposite material. It'stoughenough
to take the punishmentyougive,andthensome.
It can eventake the crushingimpactof a full-sizedfire truck.(RUN OVERWITH TRUCK).
The constructioniswatertight.Youcan completelyimmersethe DragonFlyinwaterwithoutdamaging
it.
As an option, yourDragonFlySA PASSmaybe equippedwithaheatsensor. You'll findthe heatsensor
here,andit's silver.That'sone wayto tell.Duringthe initial activationisanother.
Listenas I activate a DragonFlywithoutaheatalarm (CURT PULLS KEY, ALARMSFX,THEN REPLACES
KEY).. .and one witha heatalarm (ALARMSFX).Didyou hearthe difference?Thatextrabe-bop
indicatesthe unithasa thermal sensor.
(DISSOLVETO ACTIVEHEAT ALARM).
DragonFlythermal sensorsuse athermistortomeasure heatona time-weightedaverage.Thisgivesthe
sensormultiplealarmpoints.
(CURT OPENSMANUAL, ANDPOINTSTO CURVE IN MANUAL).
Take a lookat thistemperature curve.Itfollowsthe principle thatit'sjustas dangeroustobe exposedto
180-degree temperaturesfor18 minutes,asitisto 600-degree temperaturesforone minute.
Once the time and temperature exceedthiscurve,analarmtriggers... one that's easyto distinguish
fromthe motionalarm.Listen.. .(SFX:ALARM).
Keepinmind,though,thatbecause of the differencesinindividualfirefightersandthe turnoutgear
used,thiscurve maynot representyourtrue thresholdtoinjury.
So use the thermal alarmonlyas a reference.Inotherwords, don'tsubstitute itforstandardoperating
proceduresregardingescape fromtime-temperature extremes.If youfail todo this,itcan resultin
seriouspersonal injuryordeath.
The DragonFlySA runson a standard nine-voltalkalinebattery.Inthe monitor-orwatchdog-mode,a
freshbatteryshouldlastabout100 hours. In full alarmthe batteryruns the unitfor aboutfive
continuoushours.
The DragonFlytellsyouwhenit'stime toreplace the battery(SOUND-LOW-BATTERYWARNING).
Once the batterywarningactivates, the DragonFlySA isdesignedtoemit95 decibelsinfull armfora
minimumof one hour.Thisgivesyouplentyof time tochange the batteryafteryou finishyourtask.
Justremove the fourscrewsholdingthe coverandtake out the oldbattery.Positionthe new battery,
positive topositive,negativetonegative.
Checkthat the gasketisstill inthe cover.Thenholdthe cover inpositionandreplace the screws.
Rememberthere are nofield-replaceable partsinthe DragonFly SA.So,youshouldneverneedto
remove the backcover.
Aboutthe onlyothermaintenance youshoulddoistocleanthe case whenit'sdirty.Use soapand water
and wipe withadamp cloth.
(DISSOLVETO MS OF CURT HOLDINGDRAGONFLY).
Well, that'sthe story onthe DragonFlySA PASS.It'seasyto set upand eveneasiertouse.Youjustwalk
away (PULL TETHER). . .it'ssetand readyfor action.
Andmost important...thisrugged,dependablepiece of equipmentcan,quite literally,save yourlife.
Take it fromsomeone who'sbeenthere. The DragonFlySA PASS...use itwithconfidence!
