Walmart has been in Brazil since 1995, today, it’s present in all of Brazil through it’s ecommerce services and physically present with 500 Stores and Clubs in 18 states and Brazilia. In 2011, WM Brazil closed the year with sales of $24 Billion reais and 81.5 thousand associates, positioning it as the 3rd largest retailer in the country.WM Brazil’s Vision is: be the best retailer in Brazil, in the mind and heart of consumers and associatesSustainability has been a key focus of the company since 2007 – cumulating in many awards throughout the years, most recently Epoca Magazine’s award in the Services category ‘most ‘green’ company. Also noted are the company’s Environmentally Focused practices. WM Brazil is working in collaboration with the Federal Government to positively influence socioeconomic developments. They’ve signed an agreement to partner in a mission to remove 16.2 million people from extreme poverty to evolve Brazil into a country without poverty. As such, we are strengthening initiatives such as the Producer’s Club, that already supports more than 9000 small farmers, and the School of Social Retail, that has trained approximately 1000 young adults.
Social School of Retail ‘aka’ Escola Social do Varejo–Is the largest program developed by Walmart Institute, focusing to develop ‘young adults’ for Work. Objective is to promote professional development in people (ages 17-29) to ingress in the retail industry, working in small, medium or large retail multinationals. Developed in 2010, it’s a result of more than four years of institute investments in projects to develop young adults. The goal is to structure/prepare individuals for the first formal job in retail, area that beyond being the doorway into the workforce, it provides significant career opportunities in several ways. Walmart Institute unites company competencies with Brazilian’s economy needs, in continued growth mode, to deliver qualified talent to the industry. Executed in five Brazilian states, this program’s ambitions is to be a national role model in retail professional development, it counts on important local partnerships such as non-governmental organizations and Department of Education. 3rd year, has formed 2.5 thousand young individuals in five states: Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, Bahia, Ceará e São Paulo.
Young Aprentice ‘aka’ JovenAprendiz – In August, 80 young people from Sao Paulo, Recife, Salvador, Porto Alegre and Curitiba started to work as apprentices in five offices maintained by Walmart in Brazil. The objective is to prepare young people for the world of work, helping them to develop in the practices of personal and professional skills expected by the market. The Apprentice Program is about a year and takes place in partnership with the National Learning Services (Senac).The Trainee and Internship programs are similar in that their sole objective is to develop new talent for the future of the organization. Programa de Trainee – 1 year program, counts on the participation/attendance of individuals attending University. This is one of the most successful programs in many companies; it’s a test run that propels the best individuals to management level roles. Walmart Brazil has 2000 applicants for 3 slots. Internship – competitive similar to other national and multinational organizations.
