I don't feel alonewhen I come to this career center. People offered to help me with things that I didn't know were
available. Here arethe people that have helped me so far (and they are supported by people that I haven't seen):
The person at the door that helps me sign in -The person in the room that comes to help me when I raisethe little
red tab by the computer- The receptionistin WIA (two of them)- Patty Irvinein WIA that helped me with being
more competitive when I go up against 40 other people for the same job. Joyce Rivas in the Executive Center that
gave me so much information (liketakinga drink out of firehydrant) and without me suggesting or requesting
help, took itupon herself to give my primary resume a fresh look. Hayden Dean who is a recruiter in business
services to get me some new leads and contacts and others that have given me directions, help me get signed in,
helped me navigatewebs sites, etc. The people that organized the career fair up at Brighthousefiel d in the spring .
The people that lead the seminar on networking up at St. Petersburg collegein Clearwater

Joyce, It was a pleasuremeeting with you today. Thanks so much for your time and encouragement. You have
really energized me to continue the job search. Attached is my resume for your input. Also I connected with you
on LinkedIN and see that you are an IUP grad. About a year and a half ago I went to IUP twice. Firstto host a press
conference for a wrestlingevent and then to actual go to the event in the on campus arena. IUP was a pretty little
campus out in the hillsof Pennsylvania. The people were very supportiveof us bringinga internationally televised
show to their venue.Again, thanks for everything and I will stay in touch. Michael Weber 727-424-9938

It took me approximately 35 – 45 days to find employment after findingCareer Source Pinellas. I was respondingto
many posts and job opportunities and getting virtually no response. WhileI have been a sales professional for 26
years,my lastposition was in a very nichemarket with the largestcompany in the industry. When itbecame a
buyers market for talent, those years of experience meant littleas most employers at the level I sought had/have
the luxury of requesting tenure in their specific industry.I was in a position of havingto change industries and
seemingly “startover”, particularly regardinglevel of compensation. That was difficultbased on my current life
situation.I took advantage of trainingon Employ Florida, individual meetings with Joyce Rivas, attended Pinellas
Professional Networking on the SPC campus. Joyce Rivas was and still is an excellentresourceas shegave me very
specific and constructivesuggestions howto rewrite my resume based on current market conditions. Shealso
gave me examples as well as explained the “why” behind the suggested changes. In addition, after our meeting she
followed up diligently and even forwarded me some opportunities that she thought I may be interested in. She
was an absolutepleasureto work with. After revisingmy resume based on my meeting with Joyce, I received four
or five responses from job submissions within thenext week. One of those ended up being from H&R Block,
where I was hired as the Business Development Manager for the Tampa market in mid December. Overall itwas an
excellent experience. I was more than pleasantly surprised atthe level of professionalismas well as the number of
resources availableto me that I did not know were even there. Obviously by ending unemployment and getting a
good position with a solid company has improved my lifein many ways, primarily by alleviatingstress aswell as
improvingmy financial condition. WhileI appreciated and enjoyed the classesI participated in,I credit meeting
Joyce as well as the attention, assistanceand insightsheprovided as being the primary reason why my situation
improved as itdid. I have made a new professional colleagueand friend that hopefully I can help someday as she
has helped me. I am especially happy to have documented my story as an example for Career Source Pinellas,
particularly on the work of Joyce Rivas. She clearly alwaysgives 150%and is the type of person I would always
want on my team. I’m guessing, however, that you already know that George Petrilyak,(727)403-0146,

Hi Joyce, I got hired to work at Tech Data as a bilingual (French) Customer Care Representative, setting up new
accounts! You worked with me to revisemy resume several times, and I appreciateso much the severe editing you
put itthrough. I really don't know if Tech Data would have considered me based on my old resume. As you may
remember, I came into the Executive Center bewildered on Friday August 16, after a non-interview with Randstad
Staffingfor the job at Tech Data. I showed up, filled out a littlepaperwork, and was told "that position has been
filled"before anyone actually interviewed me! Later, she told me the position was open again, but never
confirmed an interview time when I went out of my way to take the next morning off. After more unanswered
emails and vmails,I finally gota reply:"Randstad is no longer the staffingservicefor Tech Data." So that explains
some of the non-communication.She did give me the hiringmanager's name. I contacted her, and got a reply that
day sayingI should be contacted soon for an interview. A coupleof days later, a rep from Kelly Services called and
said shehad my resume as an "internal referral".Whether that was through Randstad sending it to one of the
managers at Tech Data, or through my friend who works at TD in a completely different dept, but who had
promised to mention my application to the managers of the customer caredept., I don't know. In any case, the
interview took placea few days later, and went very well.It was obvious that they were predisposed to hireme,
and the nicetwenty-something atKelly Services really didn'task me very difficultquestions.Oneslightdownsidein
the change from Randstad to Kelly:with Randstad I would have been a temp for 90 days, whereas with Kelly
Services,I'll bea temp for 11 months! Kind of stretches the meaning of the word "temp," doesn't it? Have you ever
heard of such a long temp period in temp to perm jobs? I suspectthere areno benefits duringthat time. With
Obamacare,I'll probably haveto go shoppingfor health insuranceas of Jan.1. But at leastI'll havea paycheck,
startingnext Monday. And for this,I am extremely relieved and grateful. Interestingly, another opportunity came
up after I accepted this job,but before I was given a startdate. I had filled outan onlineapplication for a French-
speakingrep at Assurant,an insurancecompany with offices in St. Pete, about a month and a half ago. So the
resume I attached was the one you helped me come up with. Though I know no one there, itactually gota
response, and they really wanted to interview me even though I told them I've accepted a position elsewhere. It's
tempting to go interview anyway, sincebenefits there start on day one. But I know I would feel wronged if Kelly
Services kept interviewing candidates after offering me the job, so I guess I need to extend the same commitment
to them. Out of curiosity,I asked how much they were paying, and it's less than the $15/ hour I'll begetting at
Tech Data, "but we can negotiate" says the Assurantrecruiter. I kept the recruiter's number, justin casethings fall
through at Tech Data. So the whole saga of the change in staffingagencies was probably more detail than you
wanted to wade through. But I wanted to let you know that you were rightin advisingme to not take it personally
and justrespond professionally, thankingher for her time. Had I written the scathingemail I feltlikewriting, I
doubt shewould have forwarded my resume to the hiringmanager when Tech Data was no longer Randstad's
client.Thank you for all your good sense, encouragement, and help re-writing my resume, Joyce. I was referred to
Joyce Rivas froma friend at St Pete Job Club. Joyce explained how resumes aresearched my software on online
applications. Itwas very enlightening and the format was different than what I have been advised onlineand
others. Very knowledgeable and professional.Encouragingand extremely helpful. Thank you Joyce! Judy McCann
Thank you, Joyce. You are a coolingbreeze in a parched land. Sincerely,Sam Radowick
Dear Joyce. My search for employment finally ended lastTuesday with my acceptancefor the position of logistics
supervisor with Kforce. Whilethis position was notwhat I had originally sought, ithas open doors of opportunities
I doubt I would have found had I continued on with my conventional search.Needless to say I am thrilled atthis
new career and the possibilities thatitpresents. Yet I would be amiss if I did not take the time to remember all
those who helped me get to this point. I cannotthank you all enough for you have all in someway contributed to
helpingme better myself whether through a class,a seminar or even justa kind word it all mattered. Being
unemployed with a family brings a new level of challenges I had yet to experience but with your help in partit was
never a challengethat overwhelmed me. So once again thank you. And whileI have to be honest and say that I
would have preferred to have met you all under different circumstances,I nonetheless am glad to have met you all
and wish you all every success in life. Bestwishes, Richard Vidal

Hello Joyce! All I can say is WOW…..WOW and WOW!! I have to tell you honestly I wasn’t surehow my elaborate
4 page novel of a resume could EVER be condensed to 1 page. I am absolutely flabbergasted athow you took
everything I had and condensed it into an easy to read brief summary of my work history.I had revised it down to
2 pages but was struggling. It was painful to try to eliminatewhat I thought was relevant. You clearly showed me
how to incorporateEVERTHING I had in my resume only this time it flowed……. easy to read, content was concise
and unlikemine (which I thought was spectacular) didn’tdateme. I have made a few tweaks to the “master”
resume and am now makingnew resumes with key words for the type of jobs I want to pursue. I am without a
doubt happy I came into the career center and extremely happy I met you. I can’tThank You enough for the help,
and insightyou have given me. More importantly,I have an entirely new way of lookingat this whole process of
findinga job, only this time I am much more confident that I will beemployed. Yes itis a process, but with
perseverance, hard work and being open to every opportunity I know I will besuccessful.Thank you for this lead I
will definitely send them either an inquiry or cover letter if there is a job I am interested in.And …... YES…. I am
usingmy sheets to document the companies I have contacted. I keep them with me at all times.I am justfinishing
up my 5 second speech or introduction and alongwith my new and much improved resume I am well equipped to
work the career fair floor tomorrow! Thank you once again for going above and beyond for me, I sincerely
appreciateitvery much and will definitely bein touch. Have a wonderful evening and rest of the week! Carla

Joyce, I am pleased to tell you I have accepted a position with Hydro-dyne. I startnext week. I have been looking

faced prior to comingto Career Source Pinellas:Getting noticed by potential employers. What were your barriers
to employment: Over-qualified,under-qualified,limited availability in my industry and local economy. What
services, programs,or trainingdid Career Source Pinellasprovidethatassisted you? Executive Center and
WIA.How did Career Source Pinellasstaff assistyou? Resume writing, interview practice, career advice, shoulder to
cry on, WIA supportand reimbursement, Professional Networking. What was the actual resultof the services
received? Long- awaited employment. Overall, howhas interactingwith Career Source PinellasExecutiveCenter
made your lifebetter?. The supportJoyce Rivas provided. Did workforce traininghelp you get a job? If so,how?
Yes- Resume writingand interview practice. Most helpful was Joyce’s coachingand support.I moved to Florida in
2011 after being laid off in 2009. I had received similar supportfrommy previous employer through Manpower
but did not get the responses I was expecting. Work Force (at that time) was a great sourceof inspiration butthe
economy was still strugglingas well as my industry. I decided to go back to school and “Reinvent myself” with WIA
supportand achieve2 state certifications in Water and WasteWater Treatment. I secured a position atthe
Desalination Plantin Gibsonton,FL. But did not feel it was the rightplaceor position for me. I resigned and took a
temporary rolewith HomeGoods in August of 2013. Shortly after that, I returned to CareerSouce and met Joyce.
Immediately, Joyce spent two, quality hours of coachingand recommendations that I put into practice.Shortly
after that, I received a request for an interview with my old employer. After 3 long months, I was called to the 3rd
and final, panel interview in Fort Mill,South Carolina. The interview went very well and received a call 1 week
after the interview. The position was filled internally……I was crushed!!!I counseled with Joyce and we reviewed.
We found some “areas of improvement” to focus on going forward but the harsh reality was,I was not selected. I
later discovered internal changes at the employer, changed the job description. For the next several months these
scenarios played over again. Great interviews but not selected for various reasons, butmostly “We fi lled the
position internally.”In August2014, I attended a Career Fair. I received the flyer from Joyce and noticed there
were 4 companies I would liketo meet. I never really put much faith in career fairs but“getting in front of decision
makers makes a decision.”I ampleased to say,I am in my firstweek with my new employer!!! It took 3 years but it
is now worth every effort. I achieved my goal by combiningmy experience in one industry and applyingitto
another. I am now a Parts and Service Representative with a Water Treatment Equipment Manufacturer. I started
with the Automotive Industry and have now transferred to the Water Treatment Industry. I could have not done
this without the services and supportprovided my CareerSource. Below is a list of services CareerSourceand Joyce
provided to me to deliver this “Success Story” to you:
1. Linked In training
2. PPN meetings with Roy and Carolanne
3. Resume writing
4. Free computer, fax and phone
5. Trainingclasses(ex.Job Power Seminar, Employ Florida web orientation)
6. Interview practice
7. Industry research with Onet. (recommended through CareerSource)
8. WIA fundingwith Patty Irving
9. Joyce Rivas,Joyce Rivas,JoyceRivas
10. Career Fair events
11. Recruitingwith Rita Wesley
12. Free photo from PTEC for Linked In photo

This listaboveis justan example of what a value CareerSource Pinellasand its team has been to me but
the most importantfrom the listis JoyceRivas. Her attention, support, encouragement, and
recommendations all madea positiveimpactand I am lucky to know her. Her direction clearly madethe
difference through this “employment jungle”. Her 2 most important recommendations were helpingme
to compress my 2 page resume to 1 page AND, to get your resume to a “decision maker” NOT applying
online- that was a tough habitto break for me. This job market is tough. It is the worst I have ever seen.
CareerSource and Joyce Rivas help me through itand to “Get in front of decision makers to make a
decision”.Thank you for all your support. Very Sincerely, Rick Hoeksema
On September 15, I started a new position after being unemployed for 10 months. Over the last6 months of my
job search I made extensive use of the career center on 34 Street South; I was a daily visitor to the executi ve
center. In the career center I found a resourcein which the staff was friendly, professional, knowledgeableand
very helpful. The staff helped:
· Fine tune my resume.
· Post my profileon linked-in,alongwith trainingon the resources availablethrough linked-In.
· Provided adviceon interviewingtechniques and role playingfor specific interviews
· Searchingof job postingon a number of web-sites
· Submitting my resume for open positions
Though the process I owed a special thanks to Joyce Rivas, Joyce was the individual I worked with the most. Joyce
kept me focused, organized and most importantoptimistic. In short there were many days Joyce kept me going!
The people of PinellasCounty have a great assetin the career center; I’m grateful it was available.Sincerely,

As a recent graduate student with a MBA, I was facingthe challenges of being of being considered "over qualified"
which potentially led to me being overlooked for positions. I believe my main barrier to employment was having
two degrees at such a young age and being a threat to those in management positions who may not have the same
education experience. I participated in Resume/Cover Letter Builder,ManPower, Interview Skillsand accessto
the computer lab where I was ableto print and fax necessary documents to potential employers. Joyce was great
at helpingto critiquemy resume to better "sell"myself to potential employers. She also helped me upgrade my
cover letter and two weeks after workingwith her, I was called in for my 1st interview! I had been unemployed for
about 3 months before meeting with Joyce so I definitely believe it was her skillsand knowledge that helped me
become a better candidate. Rita Wesley was also a greatresource for me as well, she sent me additional jobs
as soon as sheheard about them and helped me to prepare my applications beforeapplying. ? I was better
prepared for my interviews becauseI learned how to sell myself in order to appeal to the employer. I also learned
the importance of not only readingthe job description butalso using"key words"on my resume to help me stand
out from my competition. As a resultof workingwith Joyce and Rita, I was hired as an Intake Specialistwith the
PinellasStateAttorney's Office.I have been with the SOA for about two weeks now and I am truly enjoyingmyself
and meeting all of my new co-workers. I truly believe that Joyce's assistancewith my resume made the difference
and opened up the door for this great employment opportunity. She is such a great resourceand a wonderful asset
to this organization.I never knew there was so much assistanceand positiveinfluences righthere in my ommunity.
I am proud to tell anyone about my Career Source experience. Thank you Joyce for everything that you have done
for me and my family. There aren't enough words to express how grateful we are . Thank you!" - Ashley Jackson
Thank you for your help...i did end up getting a dental job!!! Yay!! I absolutely loveit!! Thank you thank you thank
you!!! - Tamara Packard
After meeting Joyce ittook me approximately 2 months to gain employment.I was entering the job market with a
proven track record in multi-channel business development, marketing and mass media sales, yet I was struggling
to receive responses from recruiters when applyingthrough various jobs boards. I feltthat my experience was too
much to be attractivefor entry level positions, and was notreachingthe proper channels for mid to upper level
positions. Joyce, was outstandingin her approach. We initially spenta good length of time reviewing my
background, challenges I was facing, and a full reviewof my resume. A resume which was too long. She helped to
consolidateit, and made itmore effective for use when applyingto onlinejob boards,by generating proper key
words that would be detected for the various positionsI was applyingfor.Within a week of using the new resume
format Joyce provided, my responses form recruiters increased exponentially. Alongwith the moral boost of
receivinga greater amount of responses from recruiters, she was a great supportthrough the ups and downs of
various interviews. There wasn’t a particularskillsetprovided to me. However, I will say becauseof Joyce’s help,
and the responses I was receivingfrom recruiters, because of the new resume, it encouraged me to stay in the
area,as I was consideringother, larger metro areas becauseof the depressed job market here in Tampa. I
inevitably found my current position through a former colleague…..but that in itself would have never happened
without the motivation I received from Career Source in helpingme land more interviews , as I was literally packed
and ready to move. Thanks again for everything. The adviceI was given from Joyce, and Career Source was
instrumental to my current success in many ways.It is advice, which I also sharewith colleagues, friends and family
who may also belookingexperiencingwhat I once did. - Kevin Schulz - 727-678-9568 kevin.schulz@wellcare.com

Joyce - The move has gone well, and whileI am still settlinginto the wonderful world of the Insys Group,I wanted
to take a moment to thank you for your excellent support. In the end of my restart, itwasn't PMI PMP or other
certifications, itwas a Presidentand CEO remembering me from 20 years ago that led to this great opportunity.
CareerSource helped me to persevere, and to gain additional perspectives on how others, especially employers,
see me. I also think my styleis more suited to the Northeast, and/or a National stage.Your resume rewrites helped
me land the job (albeitI've had to do other versions for clients sincejoiningInsys).I actually gotcloseto three FL
opportunities with the versions we created. I d feel my age and experience weighed againstme in the FL market,
Not so here.Let me know if there's a form or format I can best followto endorse you more . Christopher Chambers

I started coming to Clearwater Career Source on my own for seminars, then I was contacted for a mandatory
Seminar and meeting in mid April from unemployment to St. Pete. I took a few seminars,Sue Berg mentioned
Executive Center and introduced me to Joyce Rivas. I have been coming pretty consistently startingend of April to
use computers and look for jobs.I had a career for 29 years in the Newspaper industry, after takinga volunteer
severance packagein late November. I took some personal time and then started collectingunemployment. I
fortunately had the time to really find a new career and figure out what was best for me at this pointin my life.
Not wanting to go back to what I had left again and really figuringwhatit was that I needed atthis point in my life.
Boy have things changed! I struggled with resume creation and what/which format was best. Got great help from
both Joyce and Sue on various versions. Notsure as I really haven'tgotten too many callsand really notany actual
interviews as of yet. Realized quickly thatthis is a full time job and can be very frustratingregardless of your job
experience or skills. Not likewhen you could sell yourself in person, you have to get picked often from a computer
firstbefore you can even interview or sell yourself.I would say difficultfor someone in a uniqueindustry or job
nichethat is very hard to describewhat you did or what you want to be! My biggest barrier was figuringoutif I
wanted the same type of job and management again.Needing a unique resume for each job and actual on line
applications. I ampretty open to startingover hence, why I actually decided to go into Publix and apply for PT or
FT position as a cashier, startingcompletely over! Good company, room to grow, very humble and ok for this
opportunity and havinga job whilelookingfor FT employment with benefits. I was called quickly as I told them I
was availableany time. I however did tell them I needed FT and would still beactively looking. CareerSource
Pinellas’Job seminars ,LinkedIn, Interviewing Skills,Employ Florida,Targetingyour Employment Transition. & the
Executive Center where you can be with other professionals, goingthrough similar experienceand frustration.
Networking opportunities, computer usewith quiet placeto come everyday to look for employment with
resources availablearound you. Career Source’s Seminars, resume assistancehelped getting a person new to the
job market again back involved in what is needed today to gain employment. Additionally, having someoneneutral
looking atyour skillsas related to certain jobs and lookingout for you with opportunities for gainful employment
was encouraging. I gained peace of mind with a placeto come daily to get help, feedback and guidancefor
availablejobs and opportunities for startingover and dealingwith being unemployed. I will continueto use the
Career Source even after I get full time employment. Carer Source Yes, absolutely made my lifebetter! Gives me a
placeto go everyday to get help, look for jobs and improve my job searchingskills. Theinterview skills,
confidence, resume help and overall experience helped tremendously! A great resourcefor me duringthis life

Firstto host a press conference for a wrestlingevent and then to actual go to the event in the on campus arena. IUP was a pretty little campus out in the hillsof Pennsylvania. The people were very supportiveof us bringinga internationally televised show to their venue.Again, thanks for everything and I will stay in touch. Michael Weber 727-424-9938 michaelgweber@hotmail.com l SKYPE - michael.weber8477 I am sincerely grateful to all staff, especially to Joyce Rivas and Yyana Fowles for their great help, understanding and time devoted to me. Without their assistance, itwould have been much harder for my dream to come true - Marko Dukovic Dear Ms. Joyce, I wanted to thank you again for the wonderful resume you created for me. I really appreciate everything you have done for me. Again, thank you for all your help and encouragement. Sincerely , Beckey Coulter It took me approximately 35 – 45 days to find employment after findingCareer Source Pinellas. I was respondingto many posts and job opportunities and getting virtually no response. WhileI have been a sales professional for 26 years,my lastposition was in a very nichemarket with the largestcompany in the industry. When itbecame a buyers market for talent, those years of experience meant littleas most employers at the level I sought had/have the luxury of requesting tenure in their specific industry.I was in a position of havingto change industries and seemingly “startover”, particularly regardinglevel of compensation. That was difficultbased on my current life situation.I took advantage of trainingon Employ Florida, individual meetings with Joyce Rivas, attended Pinellas Professional Networking on the SPC campus. Joyce Rivas was and still is an excellentresourceas shegave me very specific and constructivesuggestions howto rewrite my resume based on current market conditions. Shealso gave me examples as well as explained the “why” behind the suggested changes. In addition, after our meeting she followed up diligently and even forwarded me some opportunities that she thought I may be interested in. She was an absolutepleasureto work with. After revisingmy resume based on my meeting with Joyce, I received four or five responses from job submissions within thenext week. One of those ended up being from H&R Block, where I was hired as the Business Development Manager for the Tampa market in mid December. Overall itwas an excellent experience. I was more than pleasantly surprised atthe level of professionalismas well as the number of resources availableto me that I did not know were even there. Obviously by ending unemployment and getting a good position with a solid company has improved my lifein many ways, primarily by alleviatingstress aswell as improvingmy financial condition. WhileI appreciated and enjoyed the classesI participated in,I credit meeting Joyce as well as the attention, assistanceand insightsheprovided as being the primary reason why my situation improved as itdid. I have made a new professional colleagueand friend that hopefully I can help someday as she
  • 4. has helped me. I am especially happy to have documented my story as an example for Career Source Pinellas, particularly on the work of Joyce Rivas. She clearly alwaysgives 150%and is the type of person I would always want on my team. I’m guessing, however, that you already know that George Petrilyak,(727)403-0146, gp1220usa@yahoo.com ,B.S. I really don't know if Tech Data would have considered me based on my old resume. As you may remember, I came into the Executive Center bewildered on Friday August 16, after a non-interview with Randstad Staffingfor the job at Tech Data. I showed up, filled out a littlepaperwork, and was told "that position has been filled"before anyone actually interviewed me! Later, she told me the position was open again, but never confirmed an interview time when I went out of my way to take the next morning off. After more unanswered emails and vmails,I finally gota reply:"Randstad is no longer the staffingservicefor Tech Data." So that explains some of the non-communication.She did give me the hiringmanager's name. I contacted her, and got a reply that day sayingI should be contacted soon for an interview. A coupleof days later, a rep from Kelly Services called and said shehad my resume as an "internal referral".Whether that was through Randstad sending it to one of the managers at Tech Data, or through my friend who works at TD in a completely different dept, but who had promised to mention my application to the managers of the customer caredept., I don't know. In any case, the interview took placea few days later, and went very well.It was obvious that they were predisposed to hireme, and the nicetwenty-something atKelly Services really didn'task me very difficultquestions.Oneslightdownsidein the change from Randstad to Kelly:with Randstad I would have been a temp for 90 days, whereas with Kelly Services,I'll bea temp for 11 months! Kind of stretches the meaning of the word "temp," doesn't it? Have you ever heard of such a long temp period in temp to perm jobs? I suspectthere areno benefits duringthat time. With
  • 5. Obamacare,I'll probably haveto go shoppingfor health insuranceas of Jan.1. But at leastI'll havea paycheck, startingnext Monday. And for this,I am extremely relieved and grateful. Interestingly, another opportunity came up after I accepted this job,but before I was given a startdate. I had filled outan onlineapplication for a French- speakingrep at Assurant,an insurancecompany with offices in St. Pete, about a month and a half ago. So the resume I attached was the one you helped me come up with. Though I know no one there, itactually gota response, and they really wanted to interview me even though I told them I've accepted a position elsewhere. It's tempting to go interview anyway, sincebenefits there start on day one. But I know I would feel wronged if Kelly Services kept interviewing candidates after offering me the job, so I guess I need to extend the same commitment to them. Out of curiosity,I asked how much they were paying, and it's less than the $15/ hour I'll begetting at Tech Data, "but we can negotiate" says the Assurantrecruiter. I kept the recruiter's number, justin casethings fall through at Tech Data. So the whole saga of the change in staffingagencies was probably more detail than you wanted to wade through. But I wanted to let you know that you were rightin advisingme to not take it personally and justrespond professionally, thankingher for her time. Had I written the scathingemail I feltlikewriting, I doubt shewould have forwarded my resume to the hiringmanager when Tech Data was no longer Randstad's client.Thank you for all your good sense, encouragement, and help re-writing my resume, Joyce. I was referred to Joyce Rivas froma friend at St Pete Job Club. Joyce explained how resumes aresearched my software on online applications. Itwas very enlightening and the format was different than what I have been advised onlineand others. Very knowledgeable and professional.Encouragingand extremely helpful. Thank you Joyce! Judy McCann Thank you, Joyce. You are a coolingbreeze in a parched land. Sincerely,Sam Radowick Dear Joyce. My search for employment finally ended lastTuesday with my acceptancefor the position of logistics supervisor with Kforce. Whilethis position was notwhat I had originally sought, ithas open doors of opportunities I doubt I would have found had I continued on with my conventional search.Needless to say I am thrilled atthis new career and the possibilities thatitpresents. Yet I would be amiss if I did not take the time to remember all those who helped me get to this point. I cannotthank you all enough for you have all in someway contributed to helpingme better myself whether through a class,a seminar or even justa kind word it all mattered. Being unemployed with a family brings a new level of challenges I had yet to experience but with your help in partit was never a challengethat overwhelmed me. So once again thank you. And whileI have to be honest and say that I would have preferred to have met you all under different circumstances,I nonetheless am glad to have met you all and wish you all every success in life. All I can say is WOW…..WOW and WOW!! I have to tell you honestly I wasn’t surehow my elaborate 4 page novel of a resume could EVER be condensed to 1 page. I am absolutely flabbergasted athow you took everything I had and condensed it into an easy to read brief summary of my work history.I had revised it down to 2 pages but was struggling. It was painful to try to eliminatewhat I thought was relevant. You clearly showed me how to incorporateEVERTHING I had in my resume only this time it flowed……. easy to read, content was concise and unlikemine (which I thought was spectacular) didn’tdateme. I have made a few tweaks to the “master” resume and am now makingnew resumes with key words for the type of jobs I want to pursue. I am without a doubt happy I came into the career center and extremely happy I met you. I can’tThank You enough for the help, and insightyou have given me. More importantly,I have an entirely new way of lookingat this whole process of findinga job, only this time I am much more confident that I will beemployed. Long- awaited employment. Overall, howhas interactingwith Career Source PinellasExecutiveCenter made your lifebetter?. The supportJoyce Rivas provided. Did workforce traininghelp you get a job? If so,how? Yes- Resume writingand interview practice. Most helpful was Joyce’s coachingand support.I moved to Florida in 2011 after being laid off in 2009. I had received similar supportfrommy previous employer through Manpower but did not get the responses I was expecting. Work Force (at that time) was a great sourceof inspiration butthe economy was still strugglingas well as my industry. I decided to go back to school and “Reinvent myself” with WIA supportand achieve2 state certifications in Water and WasteWater Treatment. I secured a position atthe Desalination Plantin Gibsonton,FL. But did not feel it was the rightplaceor position for me. I resigned and took a temporary rolewith HomeGoods in August of 2013. Shortly after that, I returned to CareerSouce and met Joyce. Immediately, Joyce spent two, quality hours of coachingand recommendations that I put into practice.Shortly after that, I received a request for an interview with my old employer. After 3 long months, I was called to the 3rd and final, panel interview in Fort Mill,South Carolina. The interview went very well and received a call 1 week after the interview. The position was filled internally……I was crushed!!!I counseled with Joyce and we reviewed. We found some “areas of improvement” to focus on going forward but the harsh reality was,I was not selected. I later discovered internal changes at the employer, changed the job description. For the next several months these scenarios played over again. Great interviews but not selected for various reasons, butmostly “We fi lled the position internally.”In August2014, I attended a Career Fair. I received the flyer from Joyce and noticed there were 4 companies I would liketo meet. I never really put much faith in career fairs but“getting in front of decision makers makes a decision.”I ampleased to say,I am in my firstweek with my new employer!!! It took 3 years but it is now worth every effort. I achieved my goal by combiningmy experience in one industry and applyingitto another. I am now a Parts and Service Representative with a Water Treatment Equipment Manufacturer. I started with the Automotive Industry and have now transferred to the Water Treatment Industry. I could have not done this without the services and supportprovided my CareerSource. Below is a list of services CareerSourceand Joyce provided to me to deliver this “Success Story” to you: 1. Her attention, support, encouragement, and recommendations all madea positiveimpactand I am lucky to know her. Her direction clearly madethe difference through this “employment jungle”. Her 2 most important recommendations were helpingme to compress my 2 page resume to 1 page AND, to get your resume to a “decision maker” NOT applying online- that was a tough habitto break for me. This job market is tough. It is the worst I have ever seen. CareerSource and Joyce Rivas help me through itand to “Get in front of decision makers to make a decision”.Thank you for all your support. Very Sincerely, Rick Hoeksema On September 15, I started a new position after being unemployed for 10 months. Over the last6 months of my job search I made extensive use of the career center on 34 Street South; I was a daily visitor to the executi ve center. In the career center I found a resourcein which the staff was friendly, professional, knowledgeableand very helpful. The staff helped: · Fine tune my resume. · Post my profileon linked-in,alongwith trainingon the resources availablethrough linked-In. · Provided adviceon interviewingtechniques and role playingfor specific interviews · Searchingof job postingon a number of web-sites · Submitting my resume for open positions Though the process I owed a special thanks to Joyce Rivas, Joyce was the individual I worked with the most. • 10. at helpingto critiquemy resume to better "sell"myself to potential employers. She also helped me upgrade my cover letter and two weeks after workingwith her, I was called in for my 1st interview! I had been unemployed for about 3 months before meeting with Joyce so I definitely believe it was her skillsand knowledge that helped me become a better candidate. Rita Wesley was also a greatresource for me as well, she sent me additional jobs as soon as sheheard about them and helped me to prepare my applications beforeapplying. ? I was better prepared for my interviews becauseI learned how to sell myself in order to appeal to the employer. I also learned the importance of not only readingthe job description butalso using"key words"on my resume to help me stand out from my competition. As a resultof workingwith Joyce and Rita, I was hired as an Intake Specialistwith the PinellasStateAttorney's Office.I have been with the SOA for about two weeks now and I am truly enjoyingmyself and meeting all of my new co-workers. Thank you thank you thank you!!! - Tamara Packard After meeting Joyce ittook me approximately 2 months to gain employment.I was entering the job market with a proven track record in multi-channel business development, marketing and mass media sales, yet I was struggling to receive responses from recruiters when applyingthrough various jobs boards. I feltthat my experience was too much to be attractivefor entry level positions, and was notreachingthe proper channels for mid to upper level positions. Joyce, was outstandingin her approach. We initially spenta good length of time reviewing my background, challenges I was facing, and a full reviewof my resume. A resume which was too long. She helped to consolidateit, and made itmore effective for use when applyingto onlinejob boards,by generating proper key words that would be detected for the various positionsI was applyingfor.Within a week of using the new resume format Joyce provided, my responses form recruiters increased exponentially. Alongwith the moral boost of receivinga greater amount of responses from recruiters, she was a great supportthrough the ups and downs of various interviews. There wasn’t a particularskillsetprovided to me. However, I will say becauseof Joyce’s help, and the responses I was receivingfrom recruiters, because of the new resume, it encouraged me to stay in the area,as I was consideringother, larger metro areas becauseof the depressed job market here in Tampa. I inevitably found my current position through a former colleague…..but that in itself would have never happened without the motivation I received from Career Source in helpingme land more interviews , as I was literally packed and ready to move. Thanks again for everything. The adviceI was given from Joyce, and Career Source was instrumental to my current success in many ways.It is advice, which I also sharewith colleagues, friends and family who may also belookingexperiencingwhat I once did. - Kevin Schulz - 727-678-9568 kevin.schulz@wellcare.com Marketing/Business Development Joyce Rivas, Good News !! Not wanting to go back to what I had left again and really figuringwhatit was that I needed atthis point in my life. Boy have things changed! I struggled with resume creation and what/which format was best. Got great help from both Joyce and Sue on various versions. Notsure as I really haven'tgotten too many callsand really notany actual interviews as of yet. Realized quickly thatthis is a full time job and can be very frustratingregardless of your job experience or skills. Not likewhen you could sell yourself in person, you have to get picked often from a computer firstbefore you can even interview or sell yourself.I would say difficultfor someone in a uniqueindustry or job nichethat is very hard to describewhat you did or what you want to be! My biggest barrier was figuringoutif I wanted the same type of job and management again.Needing a unique resume for each job and actual on line applications. I ampretty open to startingover hence, why I actually decided to go into Publix and apply for PT or FT position as a cashier, startingcompletely over!
