2. <REDDIE>
In my first impression, it was not something really outstanding or mesmerizing. It
does not have any fancy shape or details that catch your attention nor any reputation
that can perform one and a hundred functions. It is not something that people always
remember but when it comes to emergency or any outdoor activities, it turn out to be a
lifesaver to us.
There is one in my house and I called it "Reddie", as it is in red in color and
always "Red-die" for me (If you know they rhyme). It's solid body made up of plastic two
shape: a half oval at the front part and followed by a long cylinder which is not too long
nor too short, fine for your hand to grip it. The texture of the cylinder is smooth to
provide you a comfortable grip and it is craved with the company trademark: "
EVEREADY" and a little "R" in circle beside it in white color. At the end of the cylinder
has a small ring, dark grey in color, can be flipped up to hook the whole object on the
wall and be placed back nicely to be part of the cylinder. Just like a the opener of the
beer bottle.
Further up where the cylinder connects with the half oval, there is a small patch
of dark grey rectangle, where slightly above the middle of it lays a pop-up bar, shorter
than the rectangle. This is the button of Reddie. We will talk about the fun part, which is
the function of it in the later paragraph. The button feels slightly rough than the cylinder
body. I guess it serve the function of providing resistance as to for example questioning
the users: "are you sure you want to turn me on?" so that the users are sure to continue
either pushing up or down the button.
Okie, here we go --- pushing the button slowly upward by using your thumb and
placing the rest of your four fingers nicely around the cylinder. You can feel the tension
3. against your thumb and there is a pop-up bar to prevent you from slipping away from
the button. Once the button is pushed up, you can hear a soft "click" sound and there is
a strong yellow light rays shone right in front of you. What just happened? it is as if you
just cast a spell. You took a closer look at this magical front part - a half-oval plastic
head. On the surface of the head, a dark grey thick border line surrounds it depicting a
hidden function. As I noticed the front part of the head seems detachable from the
border line, quickly I turned using my bare hand and have a look inside --- AHH! Here
lies the best friends of it, the batteries. Two of them, stacking up from the bottom of the
cylinder body up to the top of the head. How cooperative!
The front elevation of the head is a perfect circle, bordered with a small ring of
red plastic. The surface is covered by a transparent plastic where you can see a small
light bulb in the middle and surrounded by some shiny reflective metal surface up to the
transparent cover. In the middle of the outer surface, right above of the light bulb, it is
placed a small rough dot, to reduce the amount of light rays when you accidently shone
the light into your eyes. OUCH! we talked too much, the transparent cover is getting
hotter and hotter after the button is pushed up.
Hence, we shall repeat the same procedure, pushing the button downward by
using your thumb and then you hear a swift "click" means you have switched off the
light.
We have known the appearance and texture of it. Now, let's see how is Reddie
reacts with our other senses: Smell, Hear and Taste. It feels slightly cooler than the
room temperature upon touching. Due to the light material, it is only around 500 gram
light and easy to carry around. It is odorless. As it is well-maintained, it does not
4. produce a sound upon shaking but do make loud noise like "TENK..!!" when it is hit or
smashed on the floor. As I licked the torch, it is tasteless, of course. Unless I hold it with
my hand soaked with sweat, it will taste salty.
Now, do you have the answer? it is a hand grip TORCH LIGHT! It is an
magnificent invention as it is more handy than the candles or matches and it is more
convenient than LED light or florescent light. Take a closer look at it today and you will
find that it deserves the attention because when you need to find something in the dark,
you will never forget it.
