SIG-SciFi (SF-SIG)
●
Not an academic research group
– More than half of members are from industries
– Common characteristics of members are 'SciFi
enthusiasts'
●
It's aim
– Pursuing novel idea of UI design and HCD
concept from the cases illustrated in the
scenes of SciFi movies
●
to utilize their own work in the future
●
to seek research idea

SIG's activities
1. Choose a movie
2. Members point out
the scenes which are
worth discussing
3. Discuss on the scenes
– Comprehensive analysis
●
top-down approach
– Arrange scenes and

The idea on the scene database
designers
databasemovies
Scenes which contain some
images of futuristic
interface designs are
collected and classified into
several hierarchical
categories.
Designers refer the
database to get their new
idea in their own designing
work.

NUI and culture
●
Factors in NUI are
strongly related to
the culture where
NUI is used
– It also depends on
the cultural
background of
users (and the
users' Kansei?)

Conclusions
● We need to understand “Culture and
Kansei,” so that our activities in SF-SIG are
improved.
● Especially, understanding the Culture and
Kansei in foreign area should be required,
if we would like to promote our results to
the world.
