There are some important things in the diet which every person with thyroid disease must know. Some foods can interfere with the functioning of thyroid gland and some foods may interact with the medicines one is taking.
2. 1.Cruciferous vegetables (especially
raw)
Vegetables
like cauliflower, cabbage,
broccoli, radish, mustard etc. contain
some harmful substances known as
‘goiterogens’.
They affect functioning of thyroid gland
and may make the gland under-active.
Cooking destroys the goiterogens.
Therefore cooking these vegetables
thoroughly prevents the harm.

3. 2. Soybean
Soy
proteins may
hinder thyroid
hormone absorption
in the body. So, avoid
over-consumption of
soy-products.
Fermented soy
products (soy sauce,
miso, natto etc.) are
safe to consume.

Coffee
affects the
absorption and efficacy of
thyroid hormone
replacement medications.
Avoid coffee and any
caffeine containing foods
for atleast one hour after
your medication.

after medication
These
can interfere
with absorption of
medication. So
avoid calcium and
iron supplements
until 3 to 4 hours
after you have
taken your
medicine.
