2. Teenage Violence in twisted Teenage violence is shows a series of times in the book “Twisted” written by Laurie Halse Anderson One way is when Parker and a few other guys are bullying Yoda in the locker room in school. Another time violence is showed in “Twisted” is when Tyler gets jumped towards the end of the book by a few guys. Violence is also shown every time Tyler says he wants to beet up his father or Chip, and has visions of seriously hurting them.
3. Nationwide statistics state that in 2004 23.4% of high school students were involved in a physical fight at school or work. More than 1 in 6 students nationwide say that they have carried a gun, knife or a club, and 1 in 4 say they have easy access to a gun.
4. Nearly 8 percent of teens in 2005 were threatened or injured by the use of a weapon while on school grounds. 6 percent of students missed school in fear that they would be physically harmed on their way to or from school.
5. In 2004 750,000 young people were treated in hospitals because of crimes related to violence. 1 in 12 high school teens are threatened or hurt with a weapon on average each year. An average of 15 young people in the U.S. are killed each day, and 80 percent of them are killed by the use of a gun.
6. In 2000 1561 people under age 18 got arrested for homicide. 9 percent of all murders in the U.S. were committed by people under age 18.
7. WESt STATISTICS OUT OF 21 STUDENTS 19 percent have gotten into a serious fight at school. 85.7 percent know someone who has gotten into any serious fights. 42.9 percent have gotten into fights outside of school.
8. 47.6 percent of student and west have intended on seriously injuring somebody. One third carry a weapon on them sometimes 28.6 percent have used a weapon to hurt somebody One third have been beaten up before 19 percent have been attacked with a weapon 42.9 percent been threatened by someone saying they were going to physically harm them with a weapon.
9. 4.8 percent of student at west said that they have physically hurt there boyfriend/girlfriend 19 percent have been hit by there boyfriend or girlfriend 57.1 percent of students think that violence can solve a problem.
10. 14.3 percent of students at west have carried a gun on them 19 percent carry a knife on them 4.8 percent have carried a bat 4.8 have held a weapon but chose to keep it a secret which kind. And 4.8 have used a windbreaker jacket as a whip
11. How can we prevent violence? West says some of the ways we can prevent violence is walk the other way, or talk things out. Some said you should smoke a blunt or marijuana in general. Leaving the scene might help or just simply not starting problems. You can do drugs or ignore the problem maker. They can have stricter laws on guns. You can quickly end a problem or stop bad people by having more security. Or you can avoid situations that lead to some act of violence. Some people thought that if you use more violence than the other person it can help. Some thought that there is no way, or that violence is always the answer. And some simply did not know.
