Chaise Lounge Design - Palmae

2. The Palmae chaise is a modern poolside lounger that is elegant, durable, and
highly unique. Comfort is given highest priority, with ergonomic form derived
from natural curves.

3. Inspired by palm fronds, the Palmae lounge mimics the open airy structure and
has natural detail and modern form.
Gas injected molded plastic makes this complex piece feasible. Integral color
(here a soft white-Blanco) is colorfast and uv stabilized. A light non-slip texture
is applied to the top surface, preventing the user from sliding off the lounge.

4. Supporting the lounge is an bent aluminum base that gracefully meets the ground.

5. Each leaf is curved in multiple directions to provide a ergonomically contoured
seating position. This also mimics the complexity and elegance that can only be
found in nature.

6. The foot of the lounge curls upward slightly in a natural curve to meet the ground.

7. The design required a form that would simplify the texture of a palm frond yet would
carry it’s intrinsic beauty, a form that seen from a distance would be immediately
recognizable.

8. The form would also further be of interest with the way light would pass through
the leaflets and midrib spine of the palm frond allowing for a spectacular cast
shadow.
