Intent to Contribute Statement:
Kaiser Vallejo Medical Center has dedicated the Caritas Garden based on Jean Watson’s theory
on caring science. The area which includes bamboo, waterfall, benches and a walking path is
intended for meditation, reflection and healing. The garden provides an environment that
radiates positive energy to self and to others. Jean Watson’s 10 Caritas Principles have been
engraved on hand-picked rocks placed within the garden to share with
colleagues, patients, families and our community. .” Her theory has helped us to see care in
our own life and in the world, and in seeing it to make it more tangible, valuable, and real.
