2. ROLLINGSTONE Cover Analysis The masthead on this magazine is quite large and takes up a strip of the front cover at the top of the magazine. The font is bald and has a shadow which makes it appear as it stands out from the page. The colour is plain gray which makes it formal and gives it the classic feel. It is also covered by the main image but is still affective. The layout of this cover is very simple and follows the codes and conventions of a magazine. It contains the masthead, main image, sublines . The cover is very organised and set out simply it is not overcrowded with images and writing like other music magazines. The main image shows a photograph of the mainstream rapper ‘Jay-Z’. He has been put on the front cover to attract the magazines target audience. He fits well on the front cover as he is dressed very smartly and fits with the formal layout of the cover. He looks powerful in this picture and is made the centre of attention as it is the only image on the page and he partly covers up the masthead. The sublines stand out of the page and do their job well from standing out and showing the features of the magazine.
3. KERRANG Cover Analysis Kerrang’s masthead follows the codes and conventions of a magazine of a magazine by taking up the full width of the page and it is positioned at the top of the page. The mast head has the largest font on the page and stands out on the white background, it gains the attention of the audience making it the focal point of the cover. The fact that the mast head has white lines The main image is central and represents a very well known rock band ‘BiffyClyro’ they are one of the mainstream bands right now. They target the right audience that is aimed by the magazine. Simon Neil as lead singer is made the focus of the image a he is the only one who is covering the mast head and is standing to the front t of the image. The right kind of audience has also been targeted by the ads at the bottom of the page and free poster inside the issue, and the prize giveaway above the masthead. This magazine represents a rock magazine as it follows the main colours red, black and white. Which is repeated on many other rock genre magazines.
