3. INTRODUCTION:
GEOLOGY:
Geology is the science of Earth
history,composition,structure and the associated
processes.
Geology is a vast branch of science where the
concepts of chemistry,biology,physics,astronomy,
and mathematics and so many other branches of
science are used for support of its formations.
12. Relation of Geology with Physics:
OIL AND OTHER MINERALS EXPLORATION: The site selection for the construction of oil
well are decided after many geological study about the place. The possibility for the occurrence
of oil and other resources are first determine by geological studies and it is only after that the
role of physics terms into play for digging the oil wells.
13. SEISMIC STUDIES: The seismic waves undergoes changes in their
velocity while crossing the different rock layers.Geology in
collaboration with physics help us to understand the nature of the
rock layer beneath the Earth crust by studying the changes in the
nature of seismic waves.
14. ENGINEERING GEOLOGY : The location of suitable sites for dams,
buildings, tunnel construction, roads as well as the protection of
coastal areas from erosion, flood control measures, exploration of
ground water etc. are only successful with the application of
geological knowledge.
15. SPACE EXPOLORATION and REMOTE
SENSING:Remote sensing means acquiring
information about an object or
phenomenon from a distance, i.e without
actually coming in contact with the object.
Man can know by remote sensing what is
behind the next hill, across the sea, through
the forest, under the ocean, beyond the
clouds or our Earth from the space. All such
kind of aspects come under Geological
studies
16. Relation of Geology with Chemistry:
CHEMICAL WEATHERING:With the help of geo-chemical study we can
understand about the nature of chemical weathering in rocks.
AGE DETERMINATION: Geo-chemical studies help us to understand
about the spontaneous decay of radio active elements, which can
help us in age determination.
17. IN CRYASTALLOGRAPHY: The crystallography includes
the description of the character of crystal in general of
their internal or atomic structure.
Geology is the experimental science of determining the
arrangement of atoms in the crystalline solids.
18. Relation of Geology with Biology:
EVOLUTION: Geological study on different types of rocks, fossil helps us to
know our primitive Earth, about the primitive life. From Planetology we
can able to know about the evolution of the life.
19. IN AGRICULTURE FIELD: Geological knowledge concerning
soil, erosion, drainage and mineral fertilizers has wide
application in the field of agriculture also.
20. RELATION OF GEOLOGY WITH MATHEMATICS:
Geology requires mathematical calculations to find the distance of
places, gradient of hills, areas and height of places. Location of places
are also given in terms of degrees and through calculations the layout of
areas can be predicted.
The division or portions of geology that need a mathematical background
are-
• Form and shape of the Earth
• Movements of the Earth and its immediate gravitational and
electromagnetic relations.
• Cartography and map interpretation
• Climatology
• Physiography
21. CONCLUSION:
The knowledge of geology is of exceptionally great
practical value. Modern civilization is largely
dependent on minerals and minerals products.
Geology forms the theoretical basis for prospecting
and for the exploration and working of all minerals
deposits without exception.
