Natural Disasters

Tsunami
Earthquake
Tornados
Storms
Landslides
Volcano Eruptions
Hurricane
WHAT IS TSUNAMI?
 Generated by an
 undersea geologic event,
 such as a great
 earthquake, volcanic
 explosion, or underwater
 landslide
 In Japanese “Tsunami”
 means “Harbor Wave”
 Also called “Seismic Sea
 Wave”
 Tsunamis are not “tidal
 waves”
HOW TSUNAMIS ARE MADE?
Tsunami is made by a
  series of waves,
  produced by :
  Earthquakes
  Volcanic eruptions
  Meteorite impact
  Landslides - mostly
  undersea.
WHERE DO TSUNAMIS
  OCCUR?
 Tsunamis usually occur in
  the tropical islands.
 Mostly Tsunamis occur in
the Pacific Ocean as it is
  located on a plate mostly
  made of water. The
  Pacific Ocean is also
  surrounded by the Ring
of Fire , a highly active
  volcano and earthquake
  zone
WHAT ARE THE MAIN
FEATURES OF TSUNAMI?
A giant underwater
 earthquake
Huge waves
Flooding
Major destruction.
HOW CAN YOU PROTECT
YOURSELF FROM TSUNAMI?
We cant always protect
 ourselves from
 Tsunami but we can
 take precautions like
By building a high
 wall in the coast
 where Tsunami
 occurs quite often
During Tsunami - by
 moving to the highest
 area or building
How can we predict Tsunami?
Tsunami Warning
 System (TWS) are
 used to predict
 Tsunami.
Also we use
 Seismograph – used
 to predict
 earthquake , can also
 be used to predict
 Tsunami.
