  2. Discover the author’s intended meaning. We do this by applying the following rules: 1) Continuity of the message: Use the Bible to interpret the Bible. Use clearer passages to help interpret those less clear. 2) Context of the material: immediate; historical and cultural 3) Customary meaning: use the natural, normal and customary meaning of literature
  3. Formulate the main point of the passage. Communicating the unifying principal of a passage by determining:1) Subject - What is the author talking about? 2) Compliment - What is the author saying about what he is talking about? -Haddon Robinson
  4. Recognize and communicate scriptures relevance (we do not make it relevant). A) Focus on biblical answers to common issues: marriage, family, employment, thought life, conduct, character. B) Apply the Bible as God intended: for teaching, for rebuke, for correcting and for training in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
  5. Embrace transforming truth. Take action on the information we have received. The Word of God in our minds, empowered by the Spirit of God creates change in our viewpoint, attitude, perspective, habits, and lifestyle. Genuine study of the Bible must result in increase in godliness.
