Dear Judges:
Hello, my name is Kathryn Hunter and I am senior at Creekview High School. I
completed my senior project with great honor, helping many people around our local area that
are in need. My overall goal was to conduct a children’s tennis camp and adult tennis tournament
to raise as much money as possible to donate to Must Ministries. This project was very enjoyable
regardless of all the hard work and long hours I put in to it, due to the large amount of money
and non perishable food items I raised. I overall chose this topic for my project to, in the end,
help as many people as possible and I feel the camp and tournament was a great success at
accomplishing this objective.
My intentions when choosing this topic for my senior project was to raise money while
also having fun organizing an event and playing a sport that I love. Throughout my research
paper on the topic of homeless people, I learned that a majority of us are so fortunate and we do
not realize it. In Atlanta alone, there are currently anywhere from 24,000-34,000 homeless
people wandering the streets every day. That being said, I wanted to try and make a difference
one step at a time, while also enjoying something myself and others have in common. My tennis
camp and tournament turned out to be very successful in the end and very inspiring as well,
witnessing what some people are willing to do to help others. More than enough people attended
the camp and donated different goods for the benefit of other people. I am very proud of myself
and everyone that helped support me in my goal to raise money for people in need.
Overall, my senior project and the process that went along with it taught me many life
lessons relating to my future and the career I want to pursue. This project helped me realize that I
want to find a job where I can use my organization skills and my outgoing personality to my
advantage and to help me keep a strong work ethic one day. I decided throughout the process of
this project that I would love to work in advertising or marketing, working for a popular business
or become a professional planner due to the amount of planning I spent putting the tennis camp
and tournament together. I thoroughly enjoy organizing events and/or activities that my friends
and I attend and this project definitely confirmed my career choice that I am excited to pursue in
the future. After I go to college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business, I will find a
successful advertising job and I will feel even more comfortable now that I have had experience
from this project.
In my opinion, I have mixed feelings associated with the senior project, good and bad.
This project, in a positive light, has helped me in many ways such as helping me choose a career
2. path, strengthening my organization skills, and reinforcing that I can have fun while also helping
out the community. I think the speech presentation and preparing the speech is teaching many
important skills, including how to prepare for an important speech and/or work hard on a project
and have the ability to present ones ideas. On the other hand, I do think many of the requirements
for this project are farfetched and unnecessary. I feel that many of us can and would, in fact,
complete the project very successfully without writing the research paper, without two visuals,
and without a minimum number of hours spent with the facilitator. Overall though, I do think it
benefitted me due to there being more pros than cons and I am proud of myself for all the hard
work I have put into it. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Hunter
