3 Stretches You Can Do At Your Desk To Relax Your Body
1. 3 Stretches You Can Do At Your Desk
To Relax Your Body
As entrepreneurs we do what we love, we are passionate about our mission. We never work
because we love what we do.
However, because we love it so much we tend to do too much of it. I know I do sometimes...most of
the time actually.
I could sit and write for hours and hours if my body wouldn't start complaining and asking me to
stretch out and move around a little.
We get so caught up with our work during the day and we feel it at the end of the day through aching
shoulders, neck and upper back, stiff wrists and stiff body in general.
It's not something you want to end your day with.
These are 3 stretches I do throughout the day to make me feel more relaxed and comfortable in my
body, as well as waking up my body and get my energy levels up:
1. Finger and wrist stretch
After typing for a few hours throughout the day, there is nothing better than releasing that tension in
your fingers, hands, wrists and forearms.
You type for hours and hours and your fingers are "stuck" in pretty much the same position for a very
long time. This leads to that feeling of joint stiffness and even pain.
Get your finger and wrists moving regularly. You don't have to put it down in your diary but just know
it's there to help you feel better. Make is a 10 sec habits, you will feel amazing.
You can stretch your wrists and fingers sitting at the desk.
2. 2. Stretching the sides of your body
You can do this stretch sitting or standing.
- interlock your fingers
- lift your hands above your head
- palms facing the ceiling; stretch out the arms.
- lean to the left and to the right. Do not lean backwards but to the side.
- breathe out as you stretch.

3. Shoulder and chest stretch
One of the most common things that happen when we sit for hours is that our chest and our body
closes up. You don't necessarily slouch but the shoulders creep inwards without you being aware.
When you stretch you become aware of how tight your muscles actually are. So here's one of my
favourite desk stretches ever, and you can do this stretch sitting or standing:
- Interlock your fingers behind you
- palms facing your back
- stretch out the arms behind you
- keep your chest puffed out
- start lifting your arms slowly towards your head. Don't bend the head forward or backwards. Keep it
aligned with the body.
You don't have to reach your head. You stretch as far as you feel comfortable with.
3. Don't allow the chest to collapse inwards. If you cannot lift your arms then just hold them where they
are if that stretch is enough for you. You will make progress.
