In Urban Freeflow gear whom he is a sponsored athlete for

At the Red Bull Art of Motion Freerunning competition
What got them into the art
How it changed them case study
Locations
• Southbank the UK mecca of freerunning
• Beckton gym or any other gym. Many
freerunners practice their stuff in the gym.
Especially new tricks that might be to
dangerous to try outside. You are also
allowed to film in set gyms as I have
    previously done before
• Tonbridge is a good place where there is a
strong free running following – many people
train there in parks and other places they are
    allowed to.
• Maidstone
• Other parks and good spots to practise in
• Good thing about freerunning is is that it can
be done in a variety of places
Unique selling points / style
• What type of documentary is it going to be? Reality – educational –
    entertainment
• Archive footage from sky sports, adverts, BBC3, Red Bull Art of Motion
competition, some of his earlier youtube videos etc. (pip)
• Very interesting range of action shots that can be used when filming
    freerunning
• Variety of ways to edit action such as freerunning
• Entertaining story with entertaining characters chosen
• Large range of locations such as gyms, street, parks, beach peirs (as in
    Southbank in London), climbing frames
• Can get some really ‘arty’ professional looking shots with great
    choreography in
• Can also have both of them working together (training, bantering (showing
    character) competing etc.)
Other documentaries & platforms
          (research)
Content
• What will/can be used
• Interviews
• Show of regular day to day life of the 2 characters focused on
• Freerunning and parkour (range of shots)
• Can focus or one or both characters
• Both will be good for a contrast
• Freerunning ‘jams’ (meet ups with everyone) other interviews feedback and
content from outsiders who also do freerunning
• Before and after of both the subjects and how it changed them
• Archive footage from before
• Other archive footage of commercials and work they have done through
freerunning such as appearing on television as I mentioned etc.
Target audience
• Huge loyal freerunning community that will
back if and be entertained by it.
• It will also be entertaining and educational
for those who are unsure or unaware of
what the subject is but want to learn more
  about it.
Why I should be commissioned
• Very unique idea
• few similar documentaries which don’t actually focus fully on why the subject
(chosen athlete) has taken up Parkour and Freerunning
• I’m familiar with both doing Parkour and Freerunning and also filming and
producing parkour and free running videos as I used to make many.
• Timing – as I mentioned freerunning is taking off in the media more than
ever now would be the perfect time to release a documentary on it. It would
deliver great entertainment fulfil educational purposes for those who don’t
understand it who want to know more and it would receive mass viewing
and backing by those already in the freerunning community
• It would also inspire others to follow the 2 characters/subjects and take up
freerunning having seen how it changed both their lives for the better.
Possible setbacks and solutions
• Weather – freerunning and parkour needs to be practised on dry land otherwise it is
dangerous. Wet weather will effect filming so weather checks will have to be taken
into account. freerunning can also be practised in a gym; and in a gym a practitioner
can try out moves that would be to dangerous to outside being more safe with crash
mats and other gym equipment, this obviously weather wont effect.
• Some access to certain public places may be restricted- either due to whom who
owns the property and surrounding areas not agreeing with either filming or free
running in the area and/or as the area is public pedestrians may be in the way. –
action taken – either wait till area is clear for pedestrians and is safe to film/freerun
and/or if the area is not available for filming because of who owns it complaining or
not giving consent simply move to a location – the good thing about freerunning is
there are plenty of places to do it and all you need is a pair of trainers.
• Availability of subjects. Both the subjects I’ve chosen and been in contact with are
VERY flexible and almost always available for shooting and freerunning. If worst
comes to the worst I know plenty of other people who do freerunning that will be more
    than enthusiastic about being involved.
• Travel – both subjects are willing to travel to wherever needed around the south east
London/Kent etc London Southbank, Tonbridge, Maidstone (good spots)
Any questions?

Editor's Notes

  1. Parkour is an artform Freerunning is considered a sport. Parkour is the art of getting from one place to another in the fastest most efficient way possible passing over obstacles along the way. Jumping, leaping, vaulting using whatever is necessary. Free running is similar as its getting from one place to another over obstacles but in the most stylish way, adding flips, spins and other variations along the way. Many people who do parkour do freerunning aswell. However there are people who practice parkour and parkour only and don’t like it when the two are mixed up. As Parkour is considered an art form and is done for self improvement and isn’t meant to be competitive where free running is, Parkour and free running are pigeonholed as being anti social in some modern day society. Mostly those that don’t actually understand what is it about. As they see it as just jumping around and being anti social like skating or BMXING, not actually understanding the meaning of it and why people do it.
  2. They’ve both got a strong distinctive unique character and are both looked up to in the freerunning community. And both are actually very good. Pip , 21 from Somerset Jordan 18 from East London To focus on one or both of them can be decided and altered. They both also have very different stories of why they got into freerunning and parkour and how it changed them…
  3. Both got into freerunning for different reasons – Pip got into it because he has ADHD and was always very hyperactive at school always wanted to be doing a sport or something but never actually liked or got settled into anything until he discovered free running Jordan got into it after hanging on the streets with the wrong people doing the wrong stuff then saw me and the group of people I used to hang around with doing freerunning and he kind of came into the group and took it more serious than anyone leaving his old mates and habits behind discovering a real talent for freerunning which later saw him become sponsored –talk more about later in presentation
  4. Jordan stopped hanging around with people getting him into all sorts of trouble and started to hang around with a group of freerunners and began feeling more positive about himself through freerunning. He used to be very aggressive and such but calmed down a lot taking that anger and changing it into positive energy helping him improve. He began to develop a real talent for freerunning and got better and better which saw him become sponsored by Urban Freeflow. Which is the biggest freerunning company in the UK. Pip had ADHD and wasn’t very good at anything in school but he liked sports as I mentioned before. When he started freerunning it grew on him and he wanted to be as good as he could be practising all the time. He started freerunning when free running actually started and grew into it as it grew more and more popular. Pip became very good and reached the top of his game in the freerunning community and is very much looked up to. He got into the main team at Urban Freeflow where he competited in the World Freerun championships for them 2 years running which saw himself on Sky Sports 1 and BBC3 the year after. Both events were broadcasted live. His also been linked with many sponsorships and advertising campaigns where his began to make a career out of something he did for fun. His worked with Adidas, Plan Lazy, Swatch, Walkers, Discovery Channel and many more his also competedr in other freerunning competitions such as the Red Bull Art of Motion. Freerunning changed who Pip is as a person and he talks about how it changed him in some of his videos and why he then wanted to settle down and get married at such a young age. The photo there is actually him on his wedding day with his wife doing a backflip in his suit which actually made it into The Sun newspaper,
  5. Picture is of Pip flipping in a competition called the ‘Red Bull Art of Motion’ which is a competition that started a few years ago that is hosted by Redbull. It takes place in many different countries. In that picture it’s in London’s Southbank which is the ‘Mecca of freerunning in the UK’ As freerunning has grown you can literally head down to southbank any day of the week and see people doing parkour and freerunning to pro’s to young kids just getting started into the sport and art.
  6. I’ve seen many freerunning and parkour videos and few documentaries that there are and researched further into it so I have a wide understanding of it from both someone who did freerunning and a director/producers perspective ;knowing what is effective and what isn’t - planning a documentary about freerunning Jump london by urban freeflow few years ago which really kicked off freerunning Other freerunning platforms, companies and competitions UF, MTV’s ULTIMATE PARKOUR challenge, Freerun Championships (which actually collapsed) which was first run on SKY SPORTS then BBC3 the next year (LIVE) , Red Bull Art of Motion So free running is getting more media space and time and is becoming more recognised not just in the UK but globally not just within the media but in other markets such as footwear being customized for it by big names such as K Swiss, Nike and Adidas. Freerunning is taking off faster than it ever has so making a documentary about it now would be a perfect time,
  7. Huhe loyal freerunning commuinity which will engage a massive follolwing
  8. Want to entertain and show a contrast and growth of on or 2 subjects before and after discovering parkour and freerunning
