Ancient Rome was a civilization located in a peninsula in Italy next to the Mediterranean Sea. It had a representative democracy where wealthy male citizens voted for representatives to make laws. The Romans adapted well to their mountainous environment by growing crops on terraced farms and trading on the sea. They built aqueducts to transport water and a network of roads to connect the empire. Roman culture included art, architecture using arches and domes, and religion that later became Christianity.
