today and yet, it is not often that you hear businesses talking
about advertising in Linkedin. And worse, when you do hear
them talk about Linkedin ads, it is mostly about its
unsuitability or rather, unaffordability. But that is not the
complete truth.

Linkedin revamp
• After the company was acquired by Microsoft for $26.2
billion, the social media platform has seen tremendous
modifications
• It also looks like Linkedin is getting its advertising act together
• Its campaign editing interface has been revamped completely
and Linkedin Ads now offers tracking of conversions for
advertisers.

Who should advertise on Linkedin?
Essentially, the problem seems to stem from a lack of
understanding about which businesses ought to utilize Linkedin
Ads and which should stay away and instead look to advertise in
more ‘general’ social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
According to experts, the following businesses are best poised to
utilise the Linkedin ad platform.
• Higher education
The Linkedin Ads platform allows businesses to narrow down
their targets for specific requirements

• Recruitment
Since Linkedin already focusses on professionals, naturally
companies that deal in recruitment are the ones that ought to
be taking advantage of the many services the social media
platform offers.
• High value services
Business that offer subscription services usually end up having
a good experience on the Linkedin platform because their
revenues tend to be linear – which means over a period of
time, it results in higher profits per customer

Who should not?
• Smaller companies with broader targets, e-commerce
companies, ad-agencies and B2C companies must avoid the
Linkedin platform, simply because the platform is not
designed to target a general audience, or for that matter,
general requirements.
• Also, since the click per ad in Linkedin is higher than most
other platforms, it does not make economic sense for these
companies to approach Linkedin.

In conclusion, Linkedin Ads can be a viable platform if you are a
certain kind of business and your returns from campaigns are
significantly higher than the clicks per ad. The clicks are
undoubtedly expensive but it would also be wrong to blame the
platform because of a lack of understanding about what it stands
for and what it offers. Such lack of understanding will result in the
wrong ad in the wrong place and thus make it ineffective.
