Day-to-Day Upkeep
Maintenance coordinators handle or oversee day-to-day
maintenance at the companies that employ them. For example,
they typically handle changing light bulbs and air filters, ensure
that lawn care and landscaping needs are met, make certain that
tools are properly cleaned and stored and be sure that spills and
other mishaps are cleaned up properly.
Facilities Work Control
This area is the principal contact and liaison between Facilities
and campus customers who request everything from emergency
repairs to minor maintenance. Work Control receives all trouble
calls and dispatches Facilities personnel to remedy any problems
reported. To request services or obtain information, submit a
work request by contacting us by phone or email. Work orders
are then created and transferred to the appropriate work group
for action. Direct all work status or billing questions to work
control.
Repair Needs
Maintenance coordinators are generally responsible for handling
facility and equipment repairs as problems arise. They do
periodic inspections to determine what repairs are needed, and
they serve as a point of contact for other employees when they
need to report problems. Maintenance coordinators may perform
some repairs themselves, delegate repair work to other
employees or, when outside help is needed, find service
providers to handle the work.
Preventative Maintenance
Maintenance coordinators are not just responsible for taking care
of problems after they occur. They are also responsible for
handling preventive maintenance. For example, they may
schedule seasonal service for company heating, venting and
cooling, or HVAC, systems, book periodic flooring maintenance
services and ensure that company-owned vehicles receive
regular oil changes and tire rotations.
Quality Control
Maintenance coordinators go beyond just identifying necessary
tasks and scheduling work to be done. They are also responsible
for ensuring that the work is performed to an appropriate quality
level and that it complies with company policies, applicable
industry standards and legal requirements. They typically have
the final say on whether work performed by other employees or
outside vendors is approved. Of course, their own work always
must be top-notch.
