- AmberVision began three years ago as a project funded by the Department of Justice to improve the performance of the AMBER Alert system. The system is designed to address these issues:
- The numbers are significant. 800,000 children are reported missing each year. Fortunately, only 400 to 500 are serious enough to warrant an AMBER Alert but the remaining 799,500 are a serious issue and time consuming until the child is located. AmberVision is designed to address the two most pressing issues in the process.
- Although no internet system is 100% bullet proof, AmberVision provides the highest level of security commercially available. Our best defense is that we don’t store sensitive information sought by internet pirates. We don’t store SSN’s or credit card numbers. The stored information is more readily available in the yearbook and the phone book.
- Parent has access to information they entered and can edit or remove the data and image. Local law enforcement can access any record in their jurisdiction when investigating a missing child report. The State Coordinator can access all records to issue an AMBER Alert.
