This was a Master's level presentation on video game addiction, theory and treatment. It looked at how boys are getting hooked on video games, and possible causes. Finally, using Leonard Sax's model, showed how boys are not going to college because many factors like video game addiction, ADD medication, the lack of play in Kindergarten, and societal stereotypes against boys.

There is significant new research concerning adolescent brain development and the effects of alcohol and other drug use on the developing brain. This emerging science is providing new insights about how teenagers make critical and life influencing decisions, including their decisions about drug use. Brain imaging studies suggest that the brain continues to develop through adolescence and into young adulthood (age 25 years). During adolescence, the parts of the brain that are responsible for expressing emotions and for seeking gratification tend to mature sooner than the regions of the brain that control impulses and that oversees careful decision making. As one expert puts it the teenage brain"has a well-developed accelerator but only a partly developed brake." The maturing brain of the adolescent may also pose a particular risk toward drug abuse. There is some evidence that the developing brain is prone to the deleterious effects of alcohol. One study showed that memory ability may be negatively affected by about 10% as a result of alcohol abuse. The Mentor Foundation, an international drug prevention organization, has prepared a more detailed summary of this emerging science about brain development and the vulnerability of adolescents to drug abuse.

In normal times teenagers experience a great amount of stress and anxiety. This stress and anxiety has been amplified during the pandemic. One of the greatest contributors has been the uncertainty around standardized testing options. If students can't go to school, how are they supposed to go take an exam?

Background: It is known that drugs taken by a mother during pregnancy and lactation have the potential of directly affecting offspring, but little is known about the indirect effects of parental drug-taking on older children, as mediated by the impact of their side effects on parenting quality and by the consequences of social modeling. Aim: This narrative review describes specific psychotropic-induced effects on parents that have the ability of impacting the health of their children.

This is the Grand Rounds Presentation at Saint Mary's Hospital here in Evansville, IN. In it, Dr. Cady covers the notable uptick in the diagnosis of ADHD, reviews societal effects contributing to the increased diagnosis, and reviews the precision diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. He presents a rigorous grounding in diagnostic fundamentals, notes the contribution of SPECT imaging toward our understanding of ADHD, and reviews the precise pharmacotherapeutic treatment of ADHD to avoid side effects and control symptoms. This presentation is the one that was actually presented (with updated title slide to reflect the weather outside this morning), and has the seven "true/false" questions at the end with the correct answers indicated.

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is one of the most common disorders; it is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts till adulthood. ADHD causes symptoms like having trouble paying attention, controlling impulsive behaviors and being overly active. People suffering from ADHD find it hard to concentrate on a subject. They also find it difficult to follow detailed instructions, organizing tasks and planning schedules. People with ADHD are easily distracted by little things around, external stimuli and often lose things. Visit Our Website : https://mindsightclinic.com/a-z-issues/adhd

Following the recent changes to the diagnostic category for addictive disorders in DSM-5, it is urgent to clarify what constitutes behavioural addiction to have a clear direction for future research and classi cation. However, in the years following the release of DSM-5, an expanding body of research has increasingly classi ed engagement in a wide range of common behaviours and leisure activities as possible behavioural addiction, resulting in pathologising non-clinically relevant behaviours. In this talk, Professor Billieux will present an operational definition of behavioural addiction together with a number of exclusion criteria, to avoid pathologising common behaviours.
