The document summarizes research on self-directed learning readiness among undergraduate students in a photography course. The researcher found that most instructors emphasized traditional learning over self-directed learning. To address this, the researcher used self-directed learning as a new teaching method. A survey was conducted among 101 students to assess their self-directed learning readiness and compare scores between genders. Results showed students had a high level of readiness overall and males scored higher than females in several areas. The researcher concluded self-directed learning supports students' ability to gain knowledge independently and gives instructors a role as learning facilitators.

I discovered that most instructors
emphasized the Traditional Learning
and Rote Learning.
To address the problem, I decided to use
SDL as a new method to see whether or
not SDL is suitable for students.

Self-directed learning (SDL)
SDL defines as a learning situation which allows
a student to develop personal competencies through
experiences as an individual.

Knowles (1975) found that SDL is more
aligned with our natural tendencies and
psychological development processes. The
responsibility is on the learners to take
initiative and develop abilities of selfdirected inquiry.
Therefore, my students can learn more
and believe to be more creative.
