3. Target Audience
A target audience is a specific type of person described by age
, gender and social class.
Age
You should a
describe a person
using an age range
of ten years or less.
Gender
You should
describe a person
using male or
female. Only one
gender should be
used and never use
‘both’.
Social Class
You should
describe a person
using a category of
A to E depending
on their job.
4. Occupational Social Groups - A
Group A consists of mainly high class, prestigious
people with a large paying income. The people in this
group tend to live on owner occupied houses which do
not come at a small cost. Most tend to own multiple
homes, for example in other countries, showing they
can afford to take expensive holidays. They are also
known to drive nice, expensive cars.
People in this class do not commonly engage with
social media, film and music due to their busy lifestyle
and job.
5. Representing and appealing to social groups
Social group C2
This magazine can link to many stereotypes associated with this social
group. For example, this social group is stereotyped to watch 4-5 hours of
television a day, and can be linked to supporting and enjoying sports which
are broadcasted daily on TV or consist of large events which occur yearly
and are shown on television and in magazines, for example Moto GP. As
well as the involvement of enjoying and watching sport, this magazine can
be aimed towards this social group because they can be known to show
interest in motor vehicles including motorcycles, as they would like to own
one themselves. As well as this, this magazine does not only show it as
being a sport, but shows it as having a social and leisurely side, which is
what would also attract this social group, due to their stereotypes.
The angles and positioning
6. Physical Technology
Cameras would be used for multiple
reasons. From photographing
people and still images to recording
and filming live action shots and
clips which could be used and
edited. When doing this, the studio
is set up with the right equipment,
lighting and colours so that the
photograph and recordings are at
the best quality they can be.
Digital Technology
When taking multiple photos during
a photo-shoot or filming clips for a
movie or music video for example,
the computer hardware needs to be
large to allow all of the clips and
photos to be stored for future use,
for example editing. As well as this,
memory cards with large storage
capacities are used because when
filming, because multiple shots are
taken of the same scene, resulting
in a large number of clips. This
means a large memory card would
be required so these clips could be
saved for editing later.
Software
When shooting clips for films and
taking photographs in, for example
a photo-shoot, the computer
hardware needs to be up to date so
the best qualities can be met when
editing and altering the film clips
and photographs. Programmes
such as Photoshop
7. Researching the Preliminary Exercise
This magazine is very
representative of young adults
and teenagers who participate
in school or are new to
secondary school. We know this
because of the distinctive
subtitles on the front cover
which relate to articles inside
the magazine later on. This is
not only representative of
students but it also appeals to
students. We know this
because of the designs and
features on the front cover of
the magazine. For example a
female student has been used
as the main image on this front
cover. This is the first thing the
customer would see when
purchasing this magazine, so
they would sharply know that it
is aimed at young adults/school
students.
The colour scheme of this
magazine consists of very
bright, bold colours which
distinctively catch the consumer
eye, especially one of younger
years.
8. Q Magazine is a magazine which
talks about and includes daily
news and facts about music,
artists and the music industry in
general.
This copy is aimed towards the
younger generation such as
young adults and teenagers. This
is because the cover features
bright, luminous colours which
distinctively catch the eye. As well
as this, the use of Tinie Tempah,
who is a modern rapper, also
shows that this copy is aimed at
younger ages as he appeals to
this generation.
The main image features a music
artist, where what he is wearing
matches the colour scheme of the
rest of the article. This shows
organisation and a sense of
seriousness. The image show the
artist with quite a serious and
stern look which shows this article
may be serious, or contain a lot
on this artist. The look on the
artists face may be contradictory
to the rest of the magazine
because this magazine is not
known for being very serious.
The text used throughout the front
cover of this copy can be quite
relevant to the age range this copy
is aimed at. This is because of the
graffiti, cartoon like font that is being
used.
9. Vibe magazine is similar to Q
magazine but tends to have a more
serious tone and setting. This
magazine is also aimed at
teenagers but also aimed towards
older, more mature people as well.
This is due to the more serious
tone of the magazine, as well as
the more mature content.
The artist being used on the front
cover of this magazine is Eminem,
who is a rapper. His music is
mainly listened to the younger
generation, including teenagers
and young adults. But what
contradicts this is the serious look
on the artists face, which gives the
idea that the article is about him
and will feature mature and serious
content, which is where older
people will be interested.
The mast head is being overlapped
by the picture of Eminem. This also
shows that he shows a sense of
importance in this article. Not only
this, but the use of the image being
large suggests that the article
inside contains very interesting and
significant information, which
catches and interests the eyes of
people who see this magazine.
Unlike the copy of Q magazine, the
font used in this magazine has a
more serious effect, as does the
mast head. The mast head and
font in this copy also sets the
colour scheme of this front cover.
The background colour of this
magazine mixes with the main
image, due to the darker colours.
Vibe magazine also meets the
conventions of a music related
magazine. This I because of the
eye catching fonts, colours and
images.
10. Which Forms and Conventions Will Be Used in My
Design and Why?
• I will be using images of students.
• I will use a distinctive font.
• I will have an eye catching colour scheme.
• I will be using individual subheadings.
• The image of the student will be in the centre and
subheadings will be to the left and right of it.
