SDS COURSE AND AH-DESIGN-TANGO PROJECT

This course is a part of the research project
AH-DEsign - Accessible and sustainable design
(2011-2013), financed by the European Commision

AH-DESIGN-TANGO MAIN OBJECTIVE
. exploring the theme of social inclusion and
contributing in the improvement of the
intergenerational dialogue as well as the
envioronmental sustainability.
. organizing an ITINERANT and SUSTAINABLE
EXHIBITION, to act as an agent of change, i.e. a
“lab” and a “window” to effectively difusse social
and sustainable innovations in the local community
. organizing a set of courses, in the 3 partner
universities, to generate the sereies of CONCEPTS of
social and sustainable innovation and concept of the
itinerant and sustainable exhibition through the
student’s projects

A DEFINITION

system of products and services
that are together able to fulfil a

stakeholders directly and

LOCAL PARTNER (IN MILAN):
SIS (System Social Enterprises) founded in Milan in
1995 by a group of cooperatives, now has 30 nonprofit
associations in Milan. Its main objective is to support
social solidarity through entrepreneurial criteria: it
interacts with its associates, putting together,
integrating and linking in a network their products and
services.
the Punto e Linea is a project of experimentation in the
suburbs of Milan, aiming at social cohesion by
emphasizing the existing resources at a local level and
their integration in the perspective of building a
network of sites aimed at promoting the development
of meaningful social relationships, taking the youth
communities as the main target.

The neighbourhood radio: allows everyone to speak about the area’s realities to
promote the social cohesion taking part to the local main events.

DESIGN BRIEF 1/4:
design a SUSTAINABLE SYSTEM ….

HUB BAGGIO: “Self-managed Web Radio”
design a product-service system to transform the Web Radio which has been
activated within the Punto e Linea project into a self-financing service with a
low environmental impact that focuses on promoting social cohesion and
dialogue between generations.
Web Radio was created by the youngsters of the area and it's already well-
functioning and well-known in the area. It is also invited to the events as a
reporter to broadcast the novelties and provides opportunities for people of
the district to have a program on the radio channel.

The community garden is an opportunity to gardening together, gaining new
COMMUNITY skills, producing healthy food and making new friends.

DESIGN BRIEF 2/4:

HUB GIAMBELLINO: “Community garden”
design a product-service system that allows the community garden in the
center of the Hub district of Milan Giambellino to self-sustain from the
economic point of view even after the end of the Punto e Linea project,
becoming a driving force for improvements in social cohesion and
intergenerational dialogue for the neighborhood and helping in reduction
environmental impact.
The center of the Giambellino Hub is a small house, situated in a public park
within the neighborhood.
Currently many initiatives and events are being carried out. One of the
activities is in fact linked to a community garden, created around the cottage,
which is taken care of once a week, by a group of people of different ages
and backgrounds (passersby are free to participate in the care of the
community garden).

DESIGN BRIEF 3/4:

HUB BARONA: “Reinventing the public school”
design an innovative product-service system that uses the public school of
via Lope de Vega to improve social cohesion and intergenerational dialogue
between the inhabitants (and "visitors") of the building and the attached
area.
The public school is located in the central courtyard of the self-managed
public housing in the center of the Barona district of Milan.
The system of the product-service should be designed to self-sustain from
the economic point of view even after the end of the Punto e Linea project in
a "useful sociability" manner (self-production laboratories, repair, ...) and
with a low impact on the environment.

The summer camp allows to try out many sports for free within the
neighbourhood to use the common spaces and share the sport passion.

HUB GRATTOSOLIO: “Summer camp”
The partners of European-funded research AH design in accordance with SIS
(System Social Enterprises) and HUB Gratosoglio ask of you to:
design summer camps as a system of a product-service that optimizes the
management and organization in a perspective of social inclusion and
intergenerational dialogue.
Hub Gratosoglio has been hosting sports for the summer camps for a couple
of years that last a few weeks, however there have been problems in
management and organization.
