MATHOMAT AND THE EDUCATORS
• MATHOMAT is an essential and inexpensive tool for every teacher.
• It proves to be an Essential Resource on two fronts. With the DBE placing emphasis on planning and preparation, every Mathematics
teacher requires the MATHOMAT in preparation of lesson plans and assessments.
• Considering that a vast number of Educators do not yet have access to computers, the MATHOMAT will lessen the burden on the
EDUCATOR.
• It is also an important resource in the classroom. With The MATHOMAT Drawing Template in the hands of every Learner, the emphasis
shifts from EDUCATORS worrying about a variety of other Learner’s tools and shifts focus on the core content areas as specified by the
CAPs statements in Mathematics.
MATHOMAT AND THE LEARNER
The DBE has been in a quandary ever since the release of the TIMMs reports which has placed South Africa at bottom when it comes to
the performance in both Mathematics and Science. Their evaluation of their turnaround strategy in the form of ANA (Annual National
Assessments) has revealed several areas of concern. It has become evident that Learners have difficulty in managing SHAPE, SPACE &
MEASUREMENT, FUNCTIONS AND INTERGERS in terms of the core content areas of Mathematics.
MATHOMAT becomes an Essential Teaching Tool in quest to address these areas of concern. It allows EDUCATOR to focus on the CAPs
statements in Mathematics.
• MATHOMAT is a teaching aid that encompasses many pieces of mathematical equipment.
• It serves as a practical tool with several features that can be used to enhance and develop the Learner’s level of understanding of the
different aspects of the Mathematics curriculum.
• It relieves the Learner from unnecessary and laborious drawings and enhances the visualisation process.
• It is a tool that will not only guide the Learner’s mathematical growth and development but facilitate teaching at a Primary and
Secondary Level of Education.
• It will enhance the presentation of the Learner’s work thereby boosting their confidence levels.

Introducing The MATHOMAT
Drawing Template
• The MATHOMAT Drawing Template Single combines
all of the features of a traditional math set (ruler,
protractor, compass and set squares) with a large
range of mathematically significant shapes in a single
drawing instrument.
• It is made from super clear, super tough poly
carbonate for maximum transparency when drawing.
• The edges are at exactly 90 degrees allowing both
sides to be used as set squares as well as rulers.
• The geometric shapes inside MATHOMAT are
precisely defined. The Template is packed with a
huge amount of mathematically important
information.
• The Shapes are clearly labeled and numbered for self
teaching.
• It is fun to use as it inspires creativity and exploration
in a Learner.
• Is suitable for Learners from Grades 4 to Grades 9
and beyond.

The Template has 4 Rulers
• A Street Directory Scale Ruler of 1 :20 000
• A Millimeter Scale Ruler 0 to 240mm
• A Number Line Ruler in 2 colors
• A Radian Scale Ruler which can be used with
the Unit Circle Fig 3

The PROTRACTOR
• At the heart of the Template is a very useful 360⁰
Protractor.
• We can easily draw the Cartesian Plane by plotting 5
points across the X and Y Axis.
• Reading the protractor anticlockwise the Learner can
now sketch angles from 0⁰ to 180⁰ and then the
reflex angles from 180⁰ to 360⁰.
• The learning areas of Translation, Reflection and
Rotation can explored.
• Reading the circle protractor clockwise a true bearing
scale measuring from north 0⁰ to 360⁰
• Around the circumference of the Protractor we can
measure the Circle in Radians.
• CIRCLE Center Finder - The divisions on the X and Y
co-ordinates can be used to find the center of the
circle.

Template
We can use the protractor to mark out giant polyhedral nets.
On the circumference of the Protractor is the markings for O, P,
H, and T. By marking the O and joining the dots the Learner can
now draw a larger Octagon. This can be done for a Pentagon,
Hexagon, Larger Triangle and Larger Square.

GRAPHING Cluster and Dodecagon
• The Learner sketches the Cartesian Plane and easily
sketches the graphs in the graphing cluster.
• Learners can now graph a Quadratic Equation.
• There is also the Sine/Cosine graph that can be easily
sketched.
• Figure 39 is half a Dodecagon. To sketch a complete
Dodecagon invert the template and sketch the other
half.

TESSELLATION Cluster
• Figures 20, 22, 25, 26, 32 and 39 is a group of 6
regular polygons which fit together and can be
used to tessellate.

Useful CIRCLES
• Figure 3 is a clock face which can be used to teach
time and can also be used as a unit circle.
• Figure 29 . The circumference of this circle has been
divided into 100 equal parts and is ideal for quickly
representing percentages, particularly in relation to
displaying statistical information in the form of a pie
chart or pie graph.
• Figure 15 is a Compass Rose which can be used to
teach direction.
• There’s a number of other circles which can be easily
sketched thus eliminating the need to use a
compass.
• The center of these circle can be found by using the
CIRCLE Center Finder

• The MATHOMAT Drawing Template contains some
other useful shapes.
• Learners can now find visualization sketching shapes
easy.
• Figures 4, 5, 6, 8 and 17 are ellipses.

• Parallel Lines can be sketched using the right side of
the of the template.

• Figures 7, 11 and 12 can be used to draw a
rectangular 3D image
• Figures 16, 18 and 19 can be used to draw a 3D cube.

• Triangles are highlighted in the template.

Right Angel Triangle
• These triangles become easy to sketch for the
Learner.
• The Learner can visually see the difference in these
triangles when being taught.

Using the Template with CAPS -
Math
Grade 4 – Using the template to sketch Nets of
Polyhedra, Teaching fractions – sketching shapes and
dividing, Drawing and identifying shapes, using the
clock face to teach time, sketching and learning about
Polygons.
Grade 5 – Teaching fractions – sketching shapes and
dividing, 2D and 3D Shapes, Drawing Patterns, Using the
Clock Face to teach time, Teaching Polygons,
Rectangular Prisms and Cubes, Nets of the Polyhedra,
Sketching Grids and Drawing Shapes on them, Reflective
Symmetry and Rotational Symmetry.
Grade 6 – Using the Template to teach fractions through
measurement– sketching shapes and dividing, Area and
Perimeter, 2D and 3D Shapes, Drawing Patterns, Using

Introducing The MATHOMAT Drawing Template • The MATHOMAT Drawing Template Single combines all of the features of a traditional math set (ruler, protractor, compass and set squares) with a large range of mathematically significant shapes in a single drawing instrument. • It is made from super clear, super tough poly carbonate for maximum transparency when drawing. • The edges are at exactly 90 degrees allowing both sides to be used as set squares as well as rulers. • The geometric shapes inside MATHOMAT are precisely defined. The Template is packed with a huge amount of mathematically important information. • The Shapes are clearly labeled and numbered for self teaching. • It is fun to use as it inspires creativity and exploration in a Learner. • Is suitable for Learners from Grades 4 to Grades 9 and beyond. 3

The MATHOMAT Drawing Template The PROTRACTOR • At the heart of the Template is a very useful 360⁰ Protractor. • We can easily draw the Cartesian Plane by plotting 5 points across the X and Y Axis. • Reading the protractor anticlockwise the Learner can now sketch angles from 0⁰ to 180⁰ and then the reflex angles from 180⁰ to 360⁰. • The learning areas of Translation, Reflection and Rotation can explored. • Reading the circle protractor clockwise a true bearing scale measuring from north 0⁰ to 360⁰ • Around the circumference of the Protractor we can measure the Circle in Radians. • CIRCLE Center Finder - The divisions on the X and Y co-ordinates can be used to find the center of the circle. 5
  • 6. The MATHOMAT Drawing Template We can use the protractor to mark out giant polyhedral nets. On the circumference of the Protractor is the markings for O, P, H, and T. By marking the O and joining the dots the Learner can now draw a larger Octagon. This can be done for a Pentagon, Hexagon, Larger Triangle and Larger Square. 6

The MATHOMAT Drawing Template GRAPHING Cluster and Dodecagon • The Learner sketches the Cartesian Plane and easily sketches the graphs in the graphing cluster. • Learners can now graph a Quadratic Equation. • There is also the Sine/Cosine graph that can be easily sketched. • Figure 39 is half a Dodecagon. To sketch a complete Dodecagon invert the template and sketch the other half. 7
  • 8. The MATHOMAT Drawing Template TESSELLATION Cluster • Figures 20, 22, 25, 26, 32 and 39 is a group of 6 regular polygons which fit together and can be used to tessellate. 8
  • 9. The MATHOMAT Drawing Template Useful CIRCLES • Figure 3 is a clock face which can be used to teach time and can also be used as a unit circle. • Figure 29 . The circumference of this circle has been divided into 100 equal parts and is ideal for quickly representing percentages, particularly in relation to displaying statistical information in the form of a pie chart or pie graph. • Figure 15 is a Compass Rose which can be used to teach direction. • There’s a number of other circles which can be easily sketched thus eliminating the need to use a compass. • The center of these circle can be found by using the CIRCLE Center Finder 9
