3. What is Public Library?
A library of Library system that
provides unrestrict access to
library resources and services
free of charge to all the residents
of a given community, district, or
geographic region, supported
wolly or in part of public finds.
4. Mission
To provide library and
information servies to the
needs of the community.
5. Goals
To build within each library an
information center about its
respective community its
resources
history, people, customs and
traditions.
6. Objectives
To develop nationality, a
network and linkages among
public libraries with the
National Library as the center
to facilitate research
reference needs of patrons.
8. The collection shall include
books, multi-media and other
non-book materials such as
those in the state-of-the-art
technologies, periodicals, map
, pamphets, and other
audiovisual materials.
9. The library shall maintain
the local history collection.
The size of the library
colection is dependent in the
allocation from the National
Library and form the budget
funds provided by the local
government unit in the annual
appropriations.
10. A minimun of initial
collection of 3000 volumes of
books is deemed appropriate
for public libraries in the
regions, provinces, cities and
first class municipalities
regardless of their population.
11. For libraries in
municipalities lower than the
first class, an initial book
collection of 2000 is
recommended as starting
collection while for barangay
reading centers 500 volumes
id recommended.
12. Selection and aquisition of
books and other library
materials shall rest on the
librarian with the assistance
of her professional staff.
Materials for aquisition
recommended by library
clientele shall be considered.
13. A provision for atleast 10%
annual increase of the
collection must be provided
each of any library category.
