Prince Shotoku Bio-Poem  By Luann Nguyen
Prince Shotoku Prince Shotoku Wise, Vigorous, Noble  He is from Japan He admires Chinese culture He feels that wives should obey their husbands Leader, Thoughtful, Religious  He gives hopes to get people to change their mind on Buddhism He fears nothing in his way He would like to see Chinese cultures involved in Japanese society Prince Shotoku (573-621)
Prince Shotoku  He is one of Japan’s greatest leader. He received power in 593 from his aunt as regent. He helped unite the government of Japan. He established the first Japanese embassy.  He helped modernize Japan.  He helped rule Japan when he was only 21.  He never made a wrong decision. He could talk when he was born. He made religious changes to Japan.  He built many Buddhist temples in Japan. He sent scholars to China to learn about the society.
Wise, Vigorous, Noble  Wise: He was able to speak as soon as he was born, and was so wise when he grew up. He knew what would happen before hand.  Vigorous: He tried to help Japan become more modern. He tried to spread Buddhism. His efforts changed Japan’s society.  Noble: Stood up for Japan as regent for his aunt at the age of 21. Tried to make Japan’s government stronger and stable.
He is from Japan Not a lot of people know his parents. He ruled after Jimmu ruled. He ruled alongside his aunt as regent.  He created the first constitution. His parents and past are not known accept for the accomplishments he did for Japan.  He was a member of the ruling Soga clan.  He was regent/politician during the Asuka period.  He established 12 official ranks in court.
He admires Chinese culture Wanted the country to be stable and full of culture like the Chinese. Sent Japanese scholars to China to learn everything about it’s culture.  Tried to get Japan to have same culture and religion/philosophy.  He took many ideas from Chinese culture and used it everyday Japanese society. So taken with Chinese culture and how it brings prosperous times.
He feels that wives should obey their husbands He felt this way because families in China followed through with this rule.  Also this was part of Confucianism which he also followed.  Chinese culture was a part of his life and this is where it came from.  He knew all this from scholars he sent to Chang’an to know all the Chinese culture.
Leader, Thoughtful, Religious  Leader: He was a leader because he helped his aunt rule Japan. He united Japan and established a government that was stable.  Thoughtful: He wanted his citizens to thrive not to feel pain. Tried to get Buddhism into their lives because he thought it would help them.  Religious:  He wanted Japan to adapt Chinese culture. He sent scholars to learn more about the religions and cultures
He gives hopes to get people to change their mind on Buddhism He wants them to have a peaceful life doing Buddhism. Wants same religion based on China. Built a grand temple devoted to Buddhism so that people would change their mind.  His efforts changed the minds of Japanese nobles.  Succeeded in convincing people to like Buddhism and to believe in it.
He fears nothing in his way He did what he wanted and never regret anything. His choices was bold and did it no matter what was in his way. He was a strong but gentle leader that can handle anything.  His plans always worked and that’s why Japan never showed sign of struggle.
He would like to see Chinese cultures involved in Japanese society All his life he admired Chinese culture we don’t know but he did. He wanted to adapt the culture into Japan.  He hope it would influence the community and make it a better place to be. He wanted to be like China everything including society, culture, government, etc.
Prince Shotoku (573-621) He was a strong leader even though he ruled as regent. He was born in 573. They said he died because of natural age he was old so he died others say he was ill. He died in 621. He lived until he was 48 they say.
