3. Chief Economist, South Centre. Dr. Yilmaz Akyuz was the Director of the Division on
Globalization and Development Strategies and Chief Economist at the United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) until 2003. He was the principal
author and head of the team preparing the Trade and Development Report, and
UNCTAD coordinator of research support to developing countries (the Group-of-24) in
the IMF and the World Bank. Before joining UNCTAD in 1984 he taught at various
universities in Turkey, England and elsewhere in Europe. He has published extensively
in macroeconomics, finance, growth and development. Since retiring from UNCTAD, he
has held the Tun Ismail Ali Chair in Monetary and Financial Economics, University of
Malaya. His current activities include policy research for international organizations,
and advising governments on development policy issues, and the Third World Network
AKYUZ, Yilmaz on research in trade, finance and development.

Since September of 2011, Fabio C. Barbosa is the CEO of Abril S.A. He began his career
at Nestle, where he worked for 10 years, involved with finance and controller. He spent
two years in the U.S. and two years in Switzerland. Then he worked for seven years at
Citibank in Brazil, with Treasury and Corporate Finance / Capital Markets. He was
president of ABN Amro Real since 1996 and in 2008 with the acquisition of Banco Real
Santander, became CEO of Santander Brazil. In 2011, he became Chairman of the
Board. Barbosa was president of Febraban (Brazilian Banks Association) from 2007 to
2011, and member of the Board of Petrobras from 2003 to 2011, a member of the
Council of Economic and Social Development of the Presidency, a Council member of
Endeavor Enterprise Institute, to foster entrepreneurship, and member of the Board of
the United Nations Foundation, to support the UN and to promote international
BARBOSA, Fábio C. cooperation to combat global problems. This year, he received the United Nation’s
(Brazil) Champions of the Earth 2012 award.
Geographer and sociologist by training, spent seven years travelling throughout
Argentina as part of her work as a researcher for the National Research Council for
Science and Technology. During this time, she observed the economic and social
problems arising in small rural villages outside of Buenos Aires and throughout the
country. After completing her degree, she began researching how these rural villages
were slowly dying, and developed ideas on how to reverse the situation. Based on this,
Benitez created RESPONDE, which has galvanized thousands of people, universities and
companies to become involved in generating new opportunities for these villages. Her
work has received multiple national and international awards, made possible through
social responsibility programmes in conjunction with the private sector, such as
American Express, LAN, Apache and the Cargill Foundation.

Mr. Enrique Iglesias is the current secretary at the Ibero-American General Secretariat.
His former positions include President of the Inter-American Development Bank, in
Washington DC; Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America
and Caribbean, Santiago de Chile; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government of Uruguay;
Governor of the Central Bank of Uruguay; and Secretary of Planning, Uruguay. He has
also been a University professor. Mr. Iglesias has received decorations from several
countries: France (Legion d’Honneur), Spain (Isabel la Católica), Japan, Italy, Brazil,
Argentina, Chile, Mexico, etc.

4. Mr. Caio Koch-Weser is vice chairman and senior advisor of Deutsche Bank Group.
Previously, he was state secretary and deputy minister within the German Federal
Ministry of Finance until November 2005. From 1973 to 1999, he held a number of
high-level positions in the World Bank, notably as division chief for the China program,
deputy treasurer and director of treasury operations, regional vice president for Middle
East and North Africa, and managing director of operations and member of the
Executive Committee. Additionally, is a member of the advisory board of the
Bertelsmann Foundation and a trustee of the Institute for International Economics (IIE)
in Washington, DC. From 2003 to 2005, he was the chairman of the Economic and
Financial Committee of the European Union.

Herman Mulder is a member of the board of the Dutch National Contact Point (NCP) of
the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Mulder is a former senior executive
vice-president at ABN AMRO, and is now an independent board member with a focus
on sustainable development issues. Mulder also worked in the field of livelihood
development finance in India and Brazil, where he gained insights into the global value
chain and the positive effects companies can have on people living in lower income
countries. Mulder was appointed Vice-Chairman following the departure of Professor
Mervyn King in October 2011, and has been Acting Chairman in the interim period. The
Board of Directors resolved to appoint Mulder Chairman during their meeting on Friday
25 November 2011.

Kate's research is focused on rethinking global economic development in the face of
planetary boundaries and extreme global inequalities - including discussions of green
economy, and new measures of development. She has previously conducted research
for Oxfam GB on climate change, adaptation and human rights, agricultural trade,
labour rights in global supply chains, and designing research for advocacy and
campaigning. Prior to joining Oxfam GB she spent four years as co-author and
economist of UNDP's Human Development Report. From 1994-97 she was a Fellow of
the Overseas Development Institute, working with the Ministry of Trade and Industry of
Zanzibar. She holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and a masters degree in
Economics for Development from the University of Oxford.

Jeffrey D. Sachs is a professor of economics, senior UN advisor, bestselling author, and
syndicated columnist whose monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 80
countries. He serves as Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, as well as
Quetelet Professor of Sustainable Development and Health Policy and Management. He
is Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the Millennium
Development Goals. He is co-founder and Chief Strategist of Millennium Promise
Alliance, and is director of the Millennium Villages Project. He has authored three New
York Times bestsellers: The End of Poverty (2005), Common Wealth: Economics for a
Crowded Planet (2008), and The Price of Civilization (2011). Sachs was born in Detroit,
Michigan, in 1954. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Harvard College in
1976, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1978 and 1980 respectively. He
joined the Harvard faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1980, and was promoted to

homes, Mr. Wang greatly advanced the capacity of Vanke and Chinese real sector in

etc. In recent years, Wang Shi used his personal influence to lead environmental
initiatives in China. In 2004, he founded Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology, one of
China’s largest environmental networks involving business leaders. Vanke was the first
Chinese private sector company to sign an MOU with WWF to join the Climate Saver
Program and Global Forest Trade Network. Wang Shi graduated with a bachelor’s
degree in Water Supply and Drainage, University of Lanzhou. He is now an exchange
