Then electricity and gas lines started to reach urban houses and new appliances and utensils started appearing in the market.1920’s New changes transformed women. More were interested in activities outside the home and in joining the work force. Trend of lighter and simpler foods were cutting food preparation time for women.1930’s with the depression the percent of women in the workforce continued to rise slowly, mostly because unemployment was high and the jobs were mostly saved for men. The press emphasized on the women’s role in the home.WWII: with men away women joined the workforce in unprecedented numbers. Later during Post War years female employment dropped but this year’s prosperity and technological advances helped cut the home making task time even more. Time spent on meal preparation and clean up was cut to about 20 hours per week, compared to an earlier 44 hours per week.WITH the civil rights act and the Women’s liberation movement led people to re think gender roles and see it as a viable alternative for women to have careers.
