2. Heterotrophic : animals that
need to eat other living things .
Carcass: a dead animal body
Scavengers: animals that eat carcasses.
Remains: excrements ,carcasses,leaves,etc.
Autotrophic: anything that produces their own
food from light, water and nutrients from the soil.
3. • The food chain is an example of how
organisms that live in an ecosystem
interact with each other.
• Depending on their relationships they can
be classified as producers, consumers
and decomposers.
This is a food chain.
4. PRODUCERS
• Producers, such as trees, feed with sunlight and
water. They give nutrients to other living things.
We call consumers living things that eat
producers.
These are examples of producers.
5. CONSUMERS
• Animals are consumers. They are heterotrophic
organisms. That´s to say, they eat other living
things to obtain nutrients to survive.
Mammals: sheep
Reptiles: snake
6. TYPES OF CONSUMERS
•
•
•
•
There are three types of consumers, according to what they eat: carnivores,
herbivores and omnivores.
Herbivores are the consumers which feed on producers, like giraffes or
horses.
Carnivores are the consumers which feed on other consumers. If they hunt,
they are hunters, like the leopard. If they feed on carcasses they are
scavengers, like the vulture.
Omnivores are the consumers which feed on producers, consumers and,
sometimes, on decomposers.
Herbivore.
Carnivore:
hunter.
Omnivore.
Carnivore:
scavenger.
7. DECOMPOSERS
• Fungi, and some bacteria, are decomposers.
• They obtain energy by decomposing the remains of
other living things.
• They transform these remains into substances such as
water, carbon dioxide and minerals, and release them
into the soil.
Decomposers: fungi.
Decomposers: bacteria.
8. • A food chain is a relationship
between consumers, producers and
decomposers.
• Producers are the living things that
are autotrophic.
• Consumers are organisms that feed
on producers and other consumers.
• Decomposers are the organisms
which decompose dead bodies and
transform them into nutrients.
9. 1.Can you name three producers?
2.What is a consumer? Can you
name the three types of
consumers?
3.What do decomposers do?
4.What do omnivores eat ?
