Latvia (in Latvian Latvija), officially the Republic of Latvia
( Latvijas Republika) is a country in Northern Europe.
Population estimated as of December 1, 2014 is 1 989 500
people.
The area is 64 589 km2.
Is 147 place in the world by population ( only on planet
Earth 246 countries) and 122-e.
The Capital Of Latvia - Riga. The state language is Latvian.
For the first time a similar name in the form
"Anniversary" appears in the Chronicle of Henry
(1209 year). The name "Latvia" came in Latvian
Lithuanian, in which it was formed from the
name of the Latvian - "latei" (in Lithuanian
latviai).
Latvia is bordered by Estonia to the North, Russia to the
East, Belarus in the South - East and Lithuania to the
South.
The economy is focused on logistics, banking, tourism,
food industry.

Flag of Latvia is one
of the oldest in the
world. It consists of
three horizontal
stripes: red-white-
red. White and
Carmine-red in the
ratio between a
2:1:2.
The coat of arms!
The sun is one of the Central symbols of Latvian culture, especially
in songs, poetry and painting. It is a symbol of national statehood.
Three stars above the coat of arms represent the three historical
regions (Vidzeme, Latgale and Kurzeme – Zemgale).
The National Anthem!
The national anthem “Dievs, svētī Latvia!” was officially
proclaimed the national anthem of Latvia in 1920 and played an
important role in the formation of an independent state.
The author of the text and music is Latvian composer Karlis
Baumanis.
The hymn was written in the second half of the XIX century,
when they began the process of national revival of the Latvian
people.
This was the first song in which
mentioned the word “Latvia”.
 The national bird of Latvia white
Wagtail or baltā cielava (Motacilla alba).
 National insect Latvia one of the most
popular characters in children's stories
and fairy tales – ladybird (Adalia bipunctata).
 The national flower of Latvia is
meadow Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare).
 Oak and lime - a symbol of courage and femininity in Latvian
folklore is considered the national tree of Latvia.
