Theft of Jain Idols Are Increasing Day-by
                     Day

Lord Rishabha- Khunadari, (Kherwara, Udaipur, Chakreshwari Devi- Umta,
Rajasthan). (Visnagar, Gujrat).
Idol theft thrice but recovered all times. Idol theft but recovered all
                                                times.
We were lucky: these Idols were recovered, but we all know it

                       happen all Jain - 4/2012
Jain heritage is on risk: Reasons
• Jainism least known and most misunderstood
• People are against Jains naturally because Jains these days belong to Trade
  community and have money power.
• Buddhism harmed Jainism in last 2500 years a lot (in Abroad and in India also)
• We couldn’t keep united and divided in sects-even today we are divided
• We were and are less in numbers
• Muslim attackers harmed a lot in last 1000 years
• We lost political support in last 1200 years
• We didn’t understand Ahimsa and followed Ahimsa in the form of Cowardness
  only
• We are no longer connected to physical Jain Centers/Institutes
   – Jain students have more exposure to other faiths, and less to Jainism
   – Traditional methods of passing the heritage may no longer be effective

By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
Possible Solutions: For the Future of Jainism
• Save/Conserve Ancient Jain Materials, Heritage and Traditions
• Donate to save Jainism and Motivate/Aware others to do so
• Stop new temples work for sometime (if possible) and spend that
money to sharing Jainism and saving its existing heritage
• Try to get all over support for the cause including Govt and Jains top
  management
• Needs Modernization of Jain Studies in India
Jainism has survived and flourished in India in the past
    – There were several Jain Centers of learning and practice
    – Institutions of Acharyas, Temples, Bhattarakas, Yatis, lay scholars

• Creating the next generation of scholars and young Jains
• Global Prabhavana of Jainism: Taking the message of Jainism to the
  whole world
• Modern and thorough program
• Your support and contributions critical to the success.
By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
Why Jains Must Use New Approaches
• Other religions have reached the humanity.
   – Hinduism is now known around the world, due to ISCON
etc. Gita is now widely quoted by non-Hindus.
   – Within 50 years, Christianity has become the most popular
faith in Korea, leaving Buddhism behind.
   – Jain principles like Ahimsa, Compassion, Vegetarianism,
tolerance have been hijacked by others.

• Jains must use modern methods to reach people
  around the world.

• New generation of Jains must acknowledge their
identity proudly. They should be able to discuss Jains
  with non-Jains.
By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
Building New Temples is Not Enough
• Essential components for survival of Jainism
  – Scriptures (Jin-Vani) for guidance, Temples for
worship, Monks for leadership, Devoted Shravakas
    for support.

• Extensive Temple building in recent years
  – Temples alone will not preserve Jainism
  – It is essential to preserve Jain Learning and
prepare competent scholars who will teach
    Jainism.

By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
That’s why we have created a group
   “Volunteers to Save Jain Heritage”
• Currently running on Facebook
• We are adding only interested persons to the
  group
• We need Volunteers from each part of India
• We will work physically also
• Very soon we will be in the shape of a physical
  group

By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012

Idol theft but recovered all times. We were lucky: these Idols were recovered, but we all know it can’tBy: Hemant Jain & Manish the times happen all Jain - 4/2012
  • 22. Jain heritage is on risk: Reasons • Jainism least known and most misunderstood • People are against Jains naturally because Jains these days belong to Trade community and have money power. • Buddhism harmed Jainism in last 2500 years a lot (in Abroad and in India also) • We couldn’t keep united and divided in sects-even today we are divided • We were and are less in numbers • Muslim attackers harmed a lot in last 1000 years • We lost political support in last 1200 years • We didn’t understand Ahimsa and followed Ahimsa in the form of Cowardness only • We are no longer connected to physical Jain Centers/Institutes – Jain students have more exposure to other faiths, and less to Jainism – Traditional methods of passing the heritage may no longer be effective By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
  • 23. Possible Solutions: For the Future of Jainism • Save/Conserve Ancient Jain Materials, Heritage and Traditions • Donate to save Jainism and Motivate/Aware others to do so • Stop new temples work for sometime (if possible) and spend that money to sharing Jainism and saving its existing heritage • Try to get all over support for the cause including Govt and Jains top management • Needs Modernization of Jain Studies in India Jainism has survived and flourished in India in the past – There were several Jain Centers of learning and practice – Institutions of Acharyas, Temples, Bhattarakas, Yatis, lay scholars • Creating the next generation of scholars and young Jains • Global Prabhavana of Jainism: Taking the message of Jainism to the whole world • Modern and thorough program • Your support and contributions critical to the success. By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
  • 24. Why Jains Must Use New Approaches • Other religions have reached the humanity. – Hinduism is now known around the world, due to ISCON etc. Gita is now widely quoted by non-Hindus. – Within 50 years, Christianity has become the most popular faith in Korea, leaving Buddhism behind. – Jain principles like Ahimsa, Compassion, Vegetarianism, tolerance have been hijacked by others. • Jains must use modern methods to reach people around the world. • New generation of Jains must acknowledge their identity proudly. They should be able to discuss Jains with non-Jains. By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
  • 25. Building New Temples is Not Enough • Essential components for survival of Jainism – Scriptures (Jin-Vani) for guidance, Temples for worship, Monks for leadership, Devoted Shravakas for support. • Extensive Temple building in recent years – Temples alone will not preserve Jainism – It is essential to preserve Jain Learning and prepare competent scholars who will teach Jainism. By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
  • 26. That’s why we have created a group “Volunteers to Save Jain Heritage” • Currently running on Facebook • We are adding only interested persons to the group • We need Volunteers from each part of India • We will work physically also • Very soon we will be in the shape of a physical group By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012
  • 27. Our Objectives 1. Awareness among Jains for our Ancient Temples & Heritage which are encroached by NON Jains and other Sites which are prone to further encroachments. Try for regain the heritage at various levels. 2. Renovation of Old temples, which are in bad condition and where there are only numbers of Jains or none and which needs utmost care at priority. 3. Edit Google Maps and other Virtual Earth projects for locating our Jain heritage on maps. 5. Update Wikipedia and other informative sites for Jainism related content with correct information, more references and more accuracy. 6. Research, Research and Research on Jainism By: Hemant Jain & Manish Jain - 4/2012

Defined our objectives and plans. • Editing Google Maps and Wikimapia for locating Jain heritage/place/temple on map with photos (if possible). • Created website for couple of Jain Heritage places and also shared information to popular Jain websites, so that they could add. • Created a list of some old temples with their needs for renovation • Sharing above list (with currently available details) to various FB Jain pages, groups and other people in and around us, so that they could donate directly or through Mahasabha. • Trying to get more details about such heritage/temples all over India- primarily for temples which are available in list.
