6. LAHORE
1st Middle East South Asian Learning & Organization
Development Summit will take place in Lahore, the South Asia’s
Cultural Capital.
Lahore; a historic metropolis, a city of destiny, the cultural heart of
Pakistan and a hub for traditional food, maze of bazaars and a
panorama of the great Mughal empire and architecture, is
undoubtedly defined by a vast majority as 'Jinnay lohrr nahin
waikhaya o jamya nahin'.
Lahore is undoubtedly ancient. Legend had it that it was founded by
Loh, son of Rama, the hero of Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Some others
think that the name comes from Lohawar, meaning, a 'Fort as strong as
Iron'. Muslim rule began here when Qutb ud Din Aibak was crowned
here in 1206.
Lahore is a central hub for travel in Pakistan, located in the
northeastern edge of Pakistani Punjab. The capital of the green Punjab
and the second largest city of Pakistan after Karachi, Lahore has a
population of 10 million (2008). It is located near the Ravi River, close
to the Pakistan-India border. The city is also known to be a Mughal
garden due to its rich Mughal heritage.
Lahore has a friendly, relaxed and homely atmosphere. It brims with
life, entertainment, business and cultural activity. An attraction for all
tourists, the metropolis offers some great sites to see enjoy and
reminisce forever.
The old city once surrounded by the Ravi River and covered by 12
gates is great to explore, easy to get lost in and a kaleidoscope of color.
The grand Lahore Fort; the magnificent Badshahi Mosque; the historic
Minar-e-Pakistan; the beautiful Shalimar Gardens; the magnanimous
Shrine of Data Gunj Bakhsh; the rest place of the poet of East, Dr
Mohammad Allama Iqbal; the Seraye Jehangiri; the famous Mall
Road; the beautiful Wazir Khan mosque; the throbbing Lakshmi
Chowk and Food Streets known for traditional food are some of the
must-see places. One can; however, never miss shopping at the
Anarkali Bazaar and Liberty Market where 'you shop till you drop'.
Join us in the vibrant, lively, music-and-food-loving, and just plain
fun city of LAHORE.
