A first aid presentation that gives out the steps to treat a minor burn and a moderate case of road rash.

1. How to do it yourself

2. • Step 1: Run cool, running water on burn for 10-15
minutes.

3. • Press a wrapped up ice pack to burn, don’t press pack
alone directly on the burn.

4. • Get and take a pain killer.

5. • Rinse burn with salt solution (salt and warm water) once
an hour.

6. • Rest wet, black tea bags on burn.
• Purpose: The tannic acid in tea absorbs heat from burn.

7. • Rub a thin layer of Aloe Vera onto Burn.

8. • Mix Vinegar with Water and apply to burn once an hour.
• Why Vinegar? Vinegar has disinfectant traits.

9. • Place Milk on burn for 15 min.
• Wash with water so the milk doesn’t spoil on your burn.

10. • Rub honey on the burn.
• Purpose: Kills bacteria and absorbs moisture from skin.
Why? This soothes the burn.

11. • Wrap the burn, may not be required for first degree
burns. Wraps help prevent infection.
• Change daily until burn has healed.
• Apply gauze and NOT Cotton.
• Reason: It will get stuck on and in the burn. Ouch.

Determine severity of wound. If:
You can see structures through the torn skin.
Have skin torn from wound that needs to be taken off.
The wound is deep enough to require stitches.
Get Emergency Help

14. • Determine other injuries, get medical help when needed.
• Ex: If victim knocked out, suffers confusion, or has limited
joint movement.

15. • Let the wound bleed a little.
• Purpose: It pushes trapped dirt out of deeper parts of the
wound.

Wash wound with water.
Clean rim of wound with soap and wash cloth.
If you have something stuck in the wound you may need:
Tweezers and Alcohol

17. • Rub Antibiotic ointment on the wound.

18. • Bandage wound with loose dressing, as it keeps the
wound clean.
• It also prevents wound from oozing on clothing and
bedding.
• Change regularly so the bandage won’t stick to wound.

19. • Wash wound at least once a day with soap and water.

20. • Change from gauze dressing to moisture barrier covering
a few days after injury.
• Ex: Tegaderm dressing

21. • Stop covering the wound when it stops oozing.
• This occurs normally around 7-14 days of getting the
injury in moderate case.
